HELP: Sick Koi keep dying, what is going on/what to do?

Hey guys,

So I had about 10-15 kois in my large koi pond in the backyard but for some reason 5 of them have died in the past 3 days, and a few of them (including the one in the picture) are not looking to great. The water quality, filter and aeration all look fine. The fish pictured and those that died seemed to have fin rotting, peeling, and redness. Does anyone have any idea what it might be based on the picture? I suspect there may be some bacterial/viral issue.

I really would like to save these fish, I've had them for over 5 years so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Koi Baby Feeding Help

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 01:32 PM PDT

Hi all,

First time Koi/fish owner in generarl. Yesterday I picked up a couple baby Koi from a supermarket and started them in a tank, but after a disasterous start (overfeeding and stinky water), I am wondering what is the best way to go about feeding them. They are only a few inches long, but, from what I read, that's past the "egg yolk phase." I so far have tried two different foods, goldfish flakes and shrimp pellets, and I would prefer they eat the pellets since they are less messy. They seem to avoid the pellets, though, and at the moment I am not sure whether I am underfeeding them as far as flakes go (as I am trying to avoid another situation where there are too many flakes left uneaten that get sucked up into the filter and stinky everything up again).

Are there any particular behaviours I should be looking for as far as their being "hungry"/ready to feed? Is there any rule of thumb for how much/how often I can give them food? Are they at the moment too young to eat pellets still, or do they just not like shrimp pellets? I read that they will eat brine shrimp, but I instead bought what I assume is "regular" shrimp. Are there any other foods that they will eat at such a size/age? Any advice is appreciated!
