Murphy's Law of Aquariums

Stolen from a Facebook group!

  1. The chances of an aquarium springing a leak are directly proportional to the amount of money you've spent on it.
  2. Any ill or slow moving fish will develop warp capability the moment you stick a net in the tank.
  3. There's no such thing as a non-gravid female livebearer.
  4. You will discover that you have to do an emergency water change immediately after you finish mopping the floor.
  5. If you've checked the filter, heater, lights, and tank for the set up you've just acquired, and it all works perfectly, the stand will collapse.
  6. One aquarium is not enough, and two is too many.
  7. As soon as you stick your hand in the aquarium for any reason, your nose will begin to itch.
  8. You find the perfect specimen of a species you've been coveting for $20 right after you've obtained a lesser specimen for $80.
  9. You find the perfect aquarium set-up new and on clearance right after you get the exact same one used for three times as much.
  10. Equipment you hate will never wear out. Fish you hate will never die and will outlive you.
  11. The fish you really want to keep gets too large for your current set-up, requires 50% water changes twice weekly, and won't eat anything but live foods.
  12. Every purchaser of live plants is entitled to, free of charge, a substantial collection of snails.
  13. You'll never be able to find that dead snail/fish before your tank fouls.
  14. The local fish store never has any fish you want, but somehow you still manage to spend a hefty chunk of your paycheck there.
  15. Your filter only stops working the night before you leave to go on vacation for two weeks.
  16. If you have a fish that's a bully, and you remove the fish he's bullying to a different tank, that fish will immediately start to bully his new tank mates and the original bully will start picking on the next smallest fish. You keep removing the bullied fish until you now have 8 tanks all with their own bully.
  17. No opening is too small for a fish to jump out of.
  18. You make the 4 hour trip to the large aquarium store that you've always wanted to visit, only to discover that their entire stock is "under observation" and not for sale.
  19. Everyone else's fish seem to go crazy for and thrive on expensive, high-quality flake food made with wholesome ingredients. You get a large canister based on recommendations, but your fish refuse to touch the stuff.
  20. The fish group you belong to is full of beautifully planted aquariums with crystal clear water and gorgeous fishes, with not a speck of algae to be seen anywhere. Your tanks are completely coated with green 5 minutes after you scrape the glass and bleach all the decor.
