Recently picked up some peacock gudgeon‘s, they’ve quickly become my favourite. Hardly see any love for them on this sub.

Bought this little guy in March 2003, he's moved house eight times across three cities and lived in tanks ranging from 100L to 2000L. He's off on his next adventure as I close down my 800L tank to set up a smaller planted tank!

This hobby can be unforgiving at times

I'm a beginner, and I had a planted tank with 5 neon tetras and a few ammanos. At the store I saw 4 runny nose tetras and a blue eye rainbow fish schooling and sprinting back and forth in the tank so happily. I decided to buy them, during quarantine they got ick, and after a week and half of treatment, all of them died except the rainbow fish. Then I decided to try again, this time with 5 runnies from another store and a female rainbow fish to accompany the poor loner that I already had. During quarantine the female did not make it for unknown reasons. However the 5 runnies, 5 neons, and the rainbow lived a happy live in the tank for about a 2 weeks, then there was a spontaneous ick breakout in the tank. After a week and half of treatment, I lost one runny nose yesterday, Today I came home to a heater malfunction, the tank was sitting at 90 degrees, a runny nose and a neon tetra did not make it. I slowly brought down the temperature to safe levels and turned off the light for the night. On a random trip to the restroom, I glanced over at the tank to catch my biggest ammano shrimp take down two runny nose tetras that were sleeping near the bottom of the tank. Never before had I seen or heard of killer ammano shrimps, but now I know they are very real. Now over half of my fish are dead, the rest are fighting for their life, I have a big killer ammano to relocate, and after everything I'm too broke to restock or for anymore expenses. I feel sad and defeated, but the struggle is part of the hobby. Luckily I have a friend who's been helping me out as I go. But as many of us know it can be tough at times.

I've helped my brother upgrade from a 57L/15G Fluval Flex to this bigger 180L/48G Juwel Rio tank. Pleased with the way it's turned out so far!
