Should I be concerned about this green build up in my substrate? It's only where I place the algae wafers.

Watching them sift through substrate makes me so happy. I finally have a stable population and I now understand the obsession with these dudes!

What type of shrimp is this? And I think it is saddled. This will be my first batch of shrimplets!

I've had dozens of shrimplets born over the last few months, but this one is definitely my favorite!

My first pet skrimp!! I have 2 ghosties in my betta/tetra tank and they're so fun to watch! I'm guessing this one is a female? I will definitely be getting another tank with only shrimp in the future :)

Getting New Cherry Shrimp

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 10:22 PM PDT

I'm very new to tank care, and I wanted to ask about some basics in caring for shrimp.

Is there any way to put a Betta fish in the same tank as my shrimp without them getting killed? I asked around and got mixed answers, so I decided to go for it, and I put three adult cherry shrimp in with my Betta. After about 2 weeks, he killed two of them in one night, and I'm pretty worried about the last one. Maybe I should get a bigger tank. Right now, mine only holds two gallons, and I don't think that's big enough.

What kind of food should I be giving my shrimp? For now, I've just been letting them eat the plant matter and stuff in the tank, but I don't really know if that's enough. I clean the tank a lot, and they might not be finding enough to eat.

Are there any specifics about breeding that a beginner might need to know? I know that it's too early for me to start thinking about breeding, but I just thought I'd ask now.

I am going to get some new shrimp soon, so if there is anything important about the buying process, it would be great if you could let me know.

I love my fish a lot, and I love my shrimp a lot, and I just want what is best for them. This is the first time in my entire life that I have owned pets, and I am constantly worried about their health. Hopefully I can find a solution to their housing and physical health issues. Thank you for reading!
