My black moor can’t find his food.

Recently I moved my boy from a 10 gallon to a 40 gallon. The tank is good to go, filtered and all, and my fish is so mush more active now. He's been really lively and is generally seems happier. The problem is that he can't find the food. I use slowly sinking pellets, and he's used to eating near the filter because it pushed the food down faster. He doesn't really do this anymore, just ignores the food on the bottom. The pellets are small, so maybe that's it? It's only his 2nd day in the tank, is he just getting used to having more ground to cover? I cut up some shelled peas for him so he could have some bigger food to find, but he won't eat them. He'll pick them up, and then spit him out like he used to do with gravel. I did change from gravel to a sand substrate, and sand does get in his mouth when he goes to eat them. Is he just trying to spit the sand out, if so, should I switch back to gravel? I'm getting worried. Again, he's not acting strange, but it's like he forgot how feeding works. I'm sorry if these are dumb questions or if I'm missing something obvious, but I really just want him to be ok. Thanks for reading and any help!

TLDR: My goldfish can't find his food after moving from a 10 gallon to a 40 gallon tank.

My guy is looking and acting much better now!

Thanks everyone for your help. In the last week we've tried most everything and it seems to be finally working. Our guy is looking and acting much happier! Still seeing some flashing, twitching, and jumping but much less.

What we did:

  • Daily water changes (slowly brought nitrates down)
  • Turned off the heater (temp now 73.7 F and not 80F)
  • Added an air stone
  • Used API Stress Coat+ during water changes
  • Added salt (10 tbs in the 50 gal tank)
  • EDIT: Also turned the filter flow rate higher

How many goldfish for a 36 gal

Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:41 PM PDT

Got a 36 gallon tank a couple weeks ago and I'm looking at fancy goldfish, hoping to stock with a couple lionheads, but I'm wondering would 3 fish be comfortable in it or should I stick with 2?

Water temp

Posted: 04 Jun 2020 06:41 PM PDT

Quick question, so I have a Ryukin (so no offense but I'd prefer Ryukin owners for advice) have had him for almost 2 weeks, I try to keep his tank cold with water bottle and keep the temp from 68-74, sometimes I'll wake up and it'll be at 76 or 78, other times I cool it down accidentally to around 66, searchs say 68-74 or the fish will get stressed, he seems fine when he is outside of that range, my question for advice is how cold or warm has your Ryukin tank gotten to?
