| Would you be interested in my idea? And what suggestions do you have? (Koi info website) Posted: 25 Jun 2020 03:52 AM PDT Hello koi keepers and enthusiasts, I've recently discovered this whole world of koi and I've been fascinated at the types of koi, the way they are bread and kept and how much craftsmanship went into creating each type. I've learned about the common and not-so common types of Koi, but I couldn't find a place were everything is neatly presented, not even wikipedia or koi forums. My idea is to create a website that lets you explore (almost) every type of koi, what makes them good/different, photos of Kois from each type, explain "jargon", etc. in a very modern and nice-looking way. This would make getting to know koi varieties and introducing them to other people easier. What do you think, would you use the website? And what suggestions do you have? (like a page for common diseases per example). Thanks for the feedback in advance! [link] [comments] | ||

| New babies! Need hideaway suggestions Posted: 24 Jun 2020 04:58 PM PDT I went to pick up some goldfish today to eat the larvae in my new little lotus garden, but they were clean out of the goldfish they usually have 1,000s of. I asked if they had any other hardy fish, because I didn't just want feeder fish that wouldn't make it through winter. They said yes they had some koi but they are sick. I asked if they were still allowed to sell the sick ones, and she didn't recommend it but she let me. Paid full-price for these pretty babies that they going to destroy. So I took a shot on these two little youngsters. Since they will be the only fish in the lotus pond they are already quarantined. If they survive and thrive like I'm hoping, they will get to move to the big pond with the large goldfish and koi. I haven't named these two yet. I'm really excited since these are the first two koi I have ever gotten myself. I'm hoping with a surplus of live food (mosquito larvae), and more open space with just the two of them that they will recover soon and thrive. I also have the medication to treat them. They have been super active today committing carnage on the larvae and chasing each other around. I was hoping I could get some suggestions for hideaways, I'd like a large one for them to stay out of the sun since their pond isn't super deep. I want to make sure they don't get too much sun. The Lotus pads are already giving them coverage on one side but every fish loves a good underwater hideaway. I've always had bettas and small fish so I'm having a hard time gauging hideaway sizes online. They always look bigger than they are. My koi are approx 2.5" long and 1" tall maybe a little more for fin clearance. I don't really care about the theme or aesthetic of any ornaments I just want something they'll like that is safe that's not going to damage their fins. Because of their size I'm seeing a lot of hideaways that worry me because they have large and small openings, and I know fish are professionals at getting stuck. Any suggestions on fun things to add for them? I was thinking of popping a few marimos in there as well if it is safe for them. Edit; also don't worry the water is clear. The red makes it look quite murky and I didn't get a great picture. , Video of them saying hello. They've already ate so much larvae since I took this video earlier! They're having fun haha https://www.instagram.com/p/CB0owUxHFJE/?igshid=1mpdb62bt74ux [link] [comments] | ||
| Looking for pond filter recommendation Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:47 AM PDT So we have a 100 gal pond that we recently just got a koi and two tamasaba gold fish for. We have a bunch of water lettuce and water hyacinths for algae control but we need something to filter the water. Could you recommend a filter system for a pond like this? [link] [comments] |
