I hate people who treat aquatic pets as disposable [Rant]

My sister (23) just on a whim decided to buy a Betta. She has zero experience keeping fish, and her boyfriend (30) who supposedly does I wouldn't trust with a pet rock. She's put it into a 9L uncycled tank, and I have difficulty believing that she knows about water parameters and good bacteria.

I offer her advice, a bigger tank, and a hundred dollars worth of chemicals for free. She tells me to fuck off because it's a "starter fish" and doesn't care if it dies.

As someone who had a much beloved guppy who got me through a lot of hard times I am severely pissed off. If I kept a puppy in a bucket for its whole life I'd be called a monster. Cram a Betta to die a slow death in a poorly maintained tank and nobody bats an eye.

I'm sorry that this post isn't directly related to shrimp, but I see how much this sub cares about their shrimp mommas and all their little babs. How much work it takes for all these tanks on the front page to be setup with so much care and dedication. It just makes me real angry when I see people like my sister who don't give a shit, and I feel a lot of you can relate to that.

Mods, remove this post if you have to, I acknowledge that it's not strictly on topic.

My shrimps keep disappearing, does this guy looks healthy? It used to be more red.Planted tank with glass fish, my last water quality read: ph 7.8, ammonia 0.25, nitrite 0, nitrate 10. Thoughts?

Tank has gotten a little wild lately, should I keep it? Or go for a more manicured look? I honestly can’t decide.
