My goldfish died in a house fire and I’m devastated over it.

Posted: 27 May 2020 08:46 AM PDT

My house burnt down over the weekend, and I lost everything I owned. It started and spread very quick. I was able to save my cat (the only thing besides myself that I was able to get out of there), but not my goldfish. I wish I could've gone back for them but it was too late. The fire was too bad.

I know they were "only goldfish" but I'd had them for years and I loved them and doted on them. I took really good care of them. The kicker was that I was going to build them a pond but never got round to it. If I had they would still be alive.

I can't help but think what a horrible death it must've been for them. They were probably confused. And I know goldfish don't think like this but I can't help but think they felt abandoned by me. I have so much guilt and I miss them a lot. I just hope their death was quick.

No one else gets it because they were "just goldfish", so I just wanted to share my thoughts with people that get it. I'd post a picture of them but I honestly can't even look at any photos of them yet.

Moving a large goldfish to a bigger tank

Posted: 27 May 2020 09:18 PM PDT

I have a rather large goldfish and want to move it to a bigger tank. My concern is how to do this without injury the fish. It was about half of it's current size and it fought like crazy when I moved it to its current tank.

How do people move there large fish?

Hello

Hi! I've created an account to post this.

Hi! I've created an account to post this.

Here is a photo of one of my goldfish. It was taken at 3:00pm today. Unfortunately, I had to leave my house for the day and when I came back at 10:00pm, I witnessed my poor fish take his last breath. I will bury him tomorrow.

I would like to know if any of you know what disease it was? He is not suffering anymore, but I would like to be able to do something if it happens again with one of my other fish. I have read many different things on the internet but nothing that truly matches the symptoms he had.

So... I have a 120-liter aquarium (31 gallons), and 4 fancy goldfish offered by a friend. I wasn't planning to get goldfish; this tank was the best thing I could find. I know it is too small, so I wanted to build a pond or at least find a bigger tank (but it's not easy with the current lockdown). I have put some plants, the water is filtered by a Fluval 306 cannister filter, oxygenated by an airstone and changed regularly (more than what is advised, because the tank is overcrowded). I feed them pellets (and they also eat a lot of the plants).

The fish in the photo has been suffering from swim bladder problem for almost 6 months (head going down). He was eating and defecating normally but was less active than before. Occasionally, some white plaques would appear on his fins, top of the head and scales (it looked like semi-transparent sugar coating - and seemed a bit fuzzy if it was important). When those symptoms would appear, I would treat them with Tetra Goldfish Goldmed (broad-spectrum drug - since I don't know what it was). This white stuff would disappear for 2 to 3 weeks and come back. All in all, I think I have treated my tank 7 times in 6 months... I have never managed to improve his swim bladder problem though... My other goldfish never developped similar symptoms.

So, he was doing okay until yesterday (no white stuff) and was even swimming a little bit more than usual. However, when I woke up this morning, he was covered in white stuff looking like wet cardboard or wet paper (especially on his gills - which never happened before). He was gasping for air when he wasn't upside-down at the surface. My 3 other goldfish were apathetic. As I said at the beginning of my (maybe too long) post, I left for the day. Before leaving, I did a small water change + start of a new treatment - but couldn't do more. When I came back in this night, he was still upside-down but at the bottom of the tank, mouth wide open, with some signs of hemorrhage on his mouth, gills, operculum, fins and their bases. His dorsal fin almost completely disintegrated in an after-noon. He wasn't moving except for a few shallow breathings. He died maybe 2 minutes after I arrived. I guess he succumbed to asphyxia and hemorrhagic septicemia.

Thanks if you read everything. If you have any idea what pathogen(s) or other things caused this, I would be very happy.

I'm attached to my goldfish and I don't want to lose another one if it happens again.

Any recipes for this sorta thing? I've been outta the hobby for a while.

Advice on black moor please

Posted: 27 May 2020 06:18 PM PDT

I have a cycled 30 gallon tank with two fancies in it - a calico telescope and a black moor. I recently changed up some decor in the tank, and since then my black moor has seemed stressed. He's just kind of staying in one spot about an inch or two below the surface, and has slightly clamped fins. Water parameters are temp 71, ammonia .25, nitrite 0, nitrate 10, pH 8.2. I did a water change and added some Seachem prime for the bit of ammonia, and a little bit of pH down to try to fix the high pH, but didn't want to add too much because I know messing with it too much can stress them out. The black moor is still eating well, and when I put food in he swims right down to it (I feed Repashy Gold) and scarfs it down, but soon returns to his spot near the top. He's not gasping at all, just kind of chilling up there. The staying in one place and slightly clamped fins are what concerns me most. I put some stress coat in as well. Any advice would be appreciated!

Highest water temp a regular goldfish can withstand?

Posted: 27 May 2020 08:12 PM PDT

So, my house has no insulation and during my areas current heatwave, our house reaches a steady 92F room temp throughout the day.

The thermometer in the tank reads 90, and while my little Salvador is acting normally I can't help but think he's stressed out. Ive floated a couple small bags of ice and brought it down to 84. Guess I'm just wondering what your experience is since everything online says a 65-72 range.

Help comet goldfish sick, bumps and cloudy yellow eyes. He can’t see anymore but still eats when he comes across pellets. Water parameters are good now.

POG FISH 2 ELECTRIC BUGALOO

I love this picture that I got of my goldfish, especially the face Pumpkin (in the middle) was making! (and I got this just before cleaning the algae)

Fish developed random white spot a day ago, appears to be a scale, but is it something I should worry about?

Moving with goldfish

Posted: 27 May 2020 11:03 AM PDT

I'm moving in about a week and I'm taking my fish with. It's a 7 hour drive and I was wondering what the best way to move the fish would be! I have 2 goldies in a 40 gallon right now.

Help my blackmoor goldfish is doing a lot of top sitting !

Posted: 27 May 2020 01:14 PM PDT

I've recently noticed that my goldfish has been doing a lot of top sitting and not going down to the bottom of the tank. I have two beautiful Blackmoor goldfish and you can tell something isn't right with the one that is doing top sitting. When he swims he bobs up to the top unless he moves around with quick movements. I'm not really sure but I think it could be gas any tips on how to treat him ???

Erratic behavior all of a sudden

Posted: 27 May 2020 10:40 AM PDT

Our approximately 5 year old fish has started behaving erratically all of a sudden. He's either floating at an angle at the top of the tank, sitting still at the bottom, or jumping at the top and bursting around. We recently added a couple small fish but some of this behavior was going on before. Eating normally 2x / day via auto feeder.

Tested the water and nitrates were high, after several days of 25% changes they're now undetectable. Removed one new fish. Lowered water temp from about 80F to 78F. Still seeing him acting strange. Any ideas?
