Rescuing this poor guy later today, half the tail is detached. Should it regrow/reattach to the body or just heal over as is?

Pebble in black moor mouth

Posted: 30 May 2020 04:40 PM PDT

So earlier today I noticed my black moor was being really still on the ground and every once in a while he'd open his mouth and I saw a pebble lodged relatively deep in there. I'm not so good at grabbing my fish but I managed to use a net to get him out and try to gently use tweezers to get it out but it seemed like it was too deep and I put him back in the tank. I ran to clean up the mess I made and when I came back he was swimming pretty fine but I didn't see him spit out the pebble. I left him alone to see if he started acting weird again. A few hours later and he seems fine. I put some food in and he ate it without a problem. I'm suspicious because it seemed like the rock was stuck a bit deep. So I'm concerned that it's in their but not clogging enough that he can't eat. But it can cause damage and prevent him from pooping if it's in there. I have been watching him for like an hour to see if I can see it in their when he opens his mouth but that boi would rather show me how cool the profile on his eyes look. I don't want to give him stress by grabbing and bringing him out again. I'm just a concerned owner for my boi. I have another goldfish in their who just seems scared from being in the presence but he's chillin. Anyway, thoughts?

Am I on the Right Path?

Posted: 30 May 2020 12:34 PM PDT

My goldfish has been through some shite ass care thanks to me. I'm doing what I can but I fear it may be too little too late. You can see in my previous post his fins are in pretty bad shape and they're not really getting better.

I do water changes pretty regularly now -- like every other day if not everyday. However his ammonia and nitrite levels keep rising back up so quickly and it's getting a bit overwhelming. I tried out a little salt but I don't think his fins appreciated it very much so I tried to remove it as quickly as possible. I feel awful because I know it's my fault.

I want to get him a bigger sized tank. I know it would probably help a lot and be for the best. I just don't have the means to do so right now. I bought some proper filter media, some sponges, filter floss, & a seachem purigen bag. Before all I used was the single cartridge that came with the filter. (for an obscenely long amount of time) I took out all of the stuff inside and then put the flossy stuff back in to help avoid killing the cycle completely.

I plan on leaving the old empty cartridge in for about two weeks so my new filter media has a chance to build up the beneficial bacteria themselves. I'll be continuing my regular water changes because I literally don't know what else to do. I'm thinking I might buy another hang on the back filter and run it along with the one I have set up now.

I would just love to get him into a bigger tank but in the meantime is there anything else I can do to help keep his levels down?

Skin looks like it is struggling, around the spot where the fins divide. Anyone know how to help him?

!QUESTION!

Posted: 30 May 2020 05:45 PM PDT

I've received A LOT of urges to upgrade my current tank, which I agree, is too small for my common goldfish, Darwin. It is a 10 - 15 gallon aquarium, and the only reason that I haven't made the switch is that I don't have enough room where I live...However, I'm looking at re-adjusting some furniture in order to make it fit. If I succeed, what tank size best suits Darwin? As I mentioned previously, he is a common goldfish. I won him at a fair nearly two years ago, and he is roughly 3 - 4 inches long. I've upgraded his tank three times over the course of these two years...He was teeny-weeny when I first got him!

I was thinking that a 30 - 40 gallon tank would be perfect, since Darwin is an only-fish. He has been aggressive toward previous tank-mates (a Mystery Snail). As an additional note, if I am not able to upgrade his aquarium, I am considering re-homing him to a knowledgeable fishkeeper with a pond. I will be heartbroken, but I only want what's best for Darwin.

Can anyone tell me what this red spot on my new fish is? It is flush with its body. I noticed it has been there for at least a few days.

Old comets bullying new shubunkins in pond?

Posted: 30 May 2020 03:47 PM PDT

Bought/introduced six feeder comets a little over a month ago and had two shubunkin (approx one year old is what I was told but they seem a bit small for that) offloaded onto me by a friend just afterwards. I kept them in QT and introduced them today. They seemed peppy from the start, very healthy and people friendly.

So the comets have been mostly MIA since I introduced them. I halfway thought they got picked off. That is until today when they got all mad with their new tank mates.

Long story short - the comets are harassing the shubunkins (which are at least twice their size) and I'm not exactly sure what to do. I'd say mating behavior but the comets can't be more than a few months old?

There's plenty of food, loads of plants and hiding spots. 750 gal pond. Water tests check out. Separating them could be a thing but I'd have a hell of a time catching them with all the plants in here.

Should I just let it ride? I mean it's been maybe four hours at this point, I just don't know when this behavior might peter out if it will at all. I haven't noticed fin damage or anything but they're darting around like psychos so it's hard to get a good look.

I'd take a vid but it's really hard to get a good shot with all the hornwort.

Advice on moving cross country with goldies!

Posted: 30 May 2020 03:26 PM PDT

Hey all!

I have two large goldfish and a pleco I plan on moving from Florida to Colorado with me, one of them has some pretty serious buoyancy/swim bladder issues so I wanna make the trip as low-stress for him as possible! It'll be about a 38 hour drive total with an 8 hour pit stop in the middle. what would be the safest, low-stress way to transport them?
