My cray just passed away :(

Posted: 03 May 2020 09:00 PM PDT

My crayfish Larry just passed away this afternoon. We are so sad and really enjoyed watching him. My tank parameters are all good according to a test strip that I did after finding him :( He was pretty active, especially at night, but I never saw him eating. I assumed that he ate in the evening because that's when he was active. We've had him for about three weeks and he never molted whereas our other cray has molted twice and we got them at the same time. Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm wondering if he was having trouble molting and that's why he died or if it could've been him not eating. I'm just trying to make a little sense of the situation and if it was human error I'd like to prevent it next time. My kids and I are always so upset when one of our tank friends dies.

Also, I feed a variety of foods, switching between algae wafers, sinking wafers, peas, carnivore wafers, and crab cuisine. He didn't seem terribly interested in any of it. I would drop it right in front of him and he wouldn't even flinch.

I've read that cuttlebone can be added to help with molting. Does anyone have experience with this and think that it could have possibly helped? I'm thinking of looking into adding it to the tank. Thanks for any advice!

The only food i have a frozen worms and brine shrimp. And shrimp pellets. (Btw i have the water treated with helpful bacteria im not too sure if that means anything to you lovely people or not.)

Question about molting.

Posted: 03 May 2020 02:20 PM PDT

So I got a electric blue crayfish in January, and have never seen him molt. So in April I go on vacation for two weeks (have someone watching my fish tanks while gone btw) and I come back and he's super blue and looks bigger and looks completely different from when I last saw him. When I left he had like reddish undertones and his a lot. So when I got back I thought maybe he molted and I missed it. Fast forward to today. Two weeks after being back. I woke up and he molted! I feel like I should of seen some signs or something. I didn't notice anything except last night he was super active and walking all around my tank. I guess I'm hoping someone can tell me what signs I should be looking for? Also I'm moving on Friday. And he's coming with me, will he eat his molt by then? Will he be good to move? Thanks in advance!

What should I feed my ghost crayfish?

Posted: 03 May 2020 09:52 AM PDT

Hi guys,

I have a ghost crayfish named Rodney and recently his food has expired. He has new food coming in a week but I don't want him to go hungry. What are some things I should feed him and how often should we feed him as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
