| Posted: 21 May 2020 10:07 AM PDT Hello! I found a crayfish in my backyard (I live in North Eastern Illinois and he is like a brownish greenish color with red legs) and decided to keep him. I went to the pet store and bought a Marina 10 Gallon LED tank.https://www.amazon.com/Marina-LED-Aquarium-Kit-Gallon/dp/B0173I55JM. I also purchased some Seachem stability per the recommendation of a friend, and some Aqueon shrimp pellets. I filled the tank with pebbles and some hiding spots, with a hill that leads above water. I've fed him at around 9 o'clock and added some carrots in for nutrition. I apoligize for the long post. I am not usually a nervous person, but something about this little guy fills me with so much love and I just want him to be healthy and happy, which in turn makes me a bit of an anxious wreck. I am looking into the right air pump for more oxygen, but have been told that for now, the filter is providing enough water movement. I guess my questions would be What type of air pump or system should I use along with the filter? How often should I change the 3 filter media inside and what types of media should I use? I am completely lost when it comes to chemical testing so what kit should I use and how often should I test the water? Do I need to boil the carrots first? What type of supplements should I use? I've heard I need Iodine. I've heard I need calcium. Should I use both? Should I use one? Should I use algae wafers in place of supplements? How often should I change the water for the next few days since its a new tank and I am very unfamiliar with tank cycling? Is it normal for it to be cloudy after a day or two? Do I need a gravel vacuum? Again I greatly apologize and don't want to waste anyone's time with this really long, rambling, confused post. I just really want to keep this little fella happy and healthy and I can't think of anywhere else with this much specialty on the subject. I appreciate any and all suggestions and feedback as to how I am doing as a crayfish owner. I am just really nervous that I am doing something wrong. Again, thank you. [link] [comments] |
