| Bought a mystery snail not realizing the issue my soft water tank might cause it... Posted: 09 May 2020 08:58 PM PDT Hi! Newbie here to the Aqua Fam. I have two male platys in a 5g who are very happy. It's a step up from the round bowl, surprised they lived situation. I decided to by a beautiful golden mystery snail yesterday. My platys have been around for 5 months, in new tank for 3 weeks. Thing is I have a soft water tank(live in NV) what's the best calcium supplement for my snail? TIA :) [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 09 May 2020 02:56 PM PDT So I'm super new to aquariums. Had a betta and 2 snails in a 10 gallon and the betta died. After some research I don't think the tank was clean enough. I was doing water changes and had a filter, but I was not vacuuming the gravel and don't think my water changing were having enough of a positive effect. Anyway, just upgraded my 2 mystery snails to a 30 gallon this morning. Just got back from the store with a test kit and readings are: ph-7.8, ammonia-0, nitrite- around 2 or more, and nitrate-20. Is it weird to have 0 ammonia but high nitrite and nitrate? Should I do a water change already!? I literally put them in there this morning! I did use a couple gallons from their original tank when I transferred them over, is this just because the original tank was THAT filthy? [link] [comments] | ||
| in case anyone remembers when i asked whether it was a bladder snail or a baby mystery... Posted: 09 May 2020 02:37 PM PDT edit: could also apparently be a baby trapdoor snail. i will keep everyone updated as it grows, because i have no idea which it is lol! it's definitely a baby mystery snail. it's gotten a bit bigger and now has a visible siphon and an operculum, which apparently bladder snails do not have. i have genuinely no idea where this little guy came from because he's the only one, but i certainly don't mind! i just think it's really strange how similar he looks to the bladder snails! he has the same pattern on his shell. if i can get a good picture any time soon, i'll be sure to add it to this post so yall can see what i'm talking about. | Posted: 09 May 2020 08:46 AM PDT My water parameters are fine and have been very stable for nitrites and ammonia, haven't been testing as often for nitrates. I have 2 large anubias, medium sized anubias, salvinia floaters, and some nana petite in there. I just added these into the tank. Temperature is about 78-80F. Sand substrate. One rabbit snail and one mystery snail. Tank is 5.5 gallon which I think may be a little small? I test the water for nitrites and ammonia spikes every morning. Should I get a bubbler to supplement the water with more oxygen? My rabbit snail sticks his entire head out of the water but hasn't had any issues with drying out. Also I found the rabbit snail sucking on the mystery snail's shell? I was worried about the shell getting damaged so I very carefully and gently took him off of his tank mate. They have a cuttlebone piece with no metal in it in the tank. Should I put it in the filter or do snails suck on it when they need calcium? I really love my snails and want to give them the best possible environment. [link] [comments] |
