- I have been keeping koi for a few years and I’ve had no problems. Last winter I noticed white blotches on a couple of my koi. I assumed it was carp pox and hoped it would clear up, now I am unsure as its gotten a lot worse. What do you all think fungus, carp pox or parasites?

| Posted: 09 May 2020 11:20 PM PDT I have a very small, but deep pond. I have had 2 koi die recently, finding them drifting into the skimmer. No visual injuries. These Koi have died exactly a week apart in early May 2020 in Southern California, the latest one being tonight. Upon going through all my data points, I made the astonishing realization that I have been missing 2 of my beautiful koi, one a calico and a platinum butterfly for at least a few months. I have no idea what happened to them. I usually dont have to deal with predators because my pond is so deep and it has tunnels. The question is, is those missing koi dead and stuck in one of those tunnels? I have tested the water and nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia are all baseline, but the PH was a bit high at 8.5 in the middle of a hot day. What would my water parameters look like with a decomposing koi in there for 2-3 months? I figure the water tests would yield something out of the ordinary if this were the case. Algae has been under control with pond blocks in the fountain bio block. [link] [comments] | ||
