Reef Tank - Aquariums - Invisible Clown

Invisible Clown

Our shop being mostly closed down for quarantine means I don't have to compete with customers for the nice pieces on new shipments and finally get to take home some gems before they get yoinked :)

Just picked up this nem yesterday, and my clown already found it!

After about 10 years out of the hobby I’m about to jump back in! I saved all my live rock (now extremely dead). My question is should I seed the tank with a few pieces of live rock? Or will this come back to life on its own after some time?

What coral do y'all reckon would look good on the center rock also what fish do you reckon would look good as well? It's a 10 gallon.

New spot, new growth!

Open to suggestions on how to improve this.

I posted about my anemone yesterday. After quarantining it in a cheap in tank breeder it is looking much better. I noticed half the body is missing tentacles. I think it got caught in a power head at night. Fingers crossed this guy fully recovers.

Anyone know the best way to keep a toby's beak trimmed? Mines starting to look a little long. (Also any advice for new corals?)

Stocking Order: Foxface Rabbitfish vs Clownfish

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:11 PM PDT

I'm looking at adding my first fish in the near future and trying to choose whether it should be a foxface rabbitfish or a pair of clowns. I'd really like the utility of the foxface's algae eating, but I imagine the clowns are a little more hardy in case something is out of whack. Either way, these will surely be the first two in my list so I'll end up getting the other next, will likely just be a while before doing so.

Bacterial Bloom?

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:04 PM PDT

I set up a macroalgae tank about 4 weeks ago and cycled it with Turbo Start. The tank cycled in about 6 days. I ghost fed and made sure the tank was sound before adding the macro algae. About a week later, the parameters were looking spot-on, so I added a clown, a molly, and a bunch of pods.

The tank was looking great, and I noticed what I thought to be a bacterial bloom. I checked the parameters, and everything was still spot on. I figured it would take care of itself as it's a new tank. I did the weekly water change at about 50% to help with the bloom (it's a 10 gallon tank). It did nothing!

I attached a video so you can take a peek. It looks like swirling clouds of smoke. I thought this was from the water change and stirring up the sand bed, but it's still swirling after 4 days! Also, the pod population is waaaayyy high-- not sure if that's contributing.

Please let me know what you all think.

Beginner lighting question.

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:04 PM PDT

So I've been a fresh water guy for a few years now and after a couple months of research i've decided to venture off into the world of saltwater. i've picked out the Nuvo Fusion 20 gal as my first tank and i've chosen most of my equipment.

But something i feel really uncomfortable about is lighting... all i want in a light is something that can do a fairly decent job growing easy easy easy beginner corals and be as low cost as possible as i've already exceeded my budget.

Any suggestions (or tips) would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

OceanMagik causing algae bloom?

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 08:43 PM PDT

Has anyone ever dosed Oceanmagik and gotten a massive algae bloom?I'm not sure that's what caused it, but within 2-3 days of starting it, my walls and sand were covered with brown and green film. No bad algae like hair, turf, etc. But it just seems odd.

Clownfish went carpet surfing.. Need advice

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 06:18 PM PDT

Hi all,

I am posting to ask if you think my dear friend will make it through. I just finished acclimating my two brand new Premium Snowflake clownfish and after lights out, while I was away from the tank, the female might have gotten spooked and jumped out of the tank.. the tiniest opening where the filter meets the lid, go figure. I am very sad.. She was not completely dried out, and was breathing slowly once I placed her back in the water in my hand. I let go after a few minutes and she is breathing faster now, laying down on a rock but moving her fins occasionally. Will she make it? Should I turn the temperature up or something? I hope she is okay..
