Jarrariums - Just started a pond in a jar last week and a digital microscope for imaging. Starting to identify organisms with my 3 year old, anyone have a good guide for IDing they would recommend?

Second tank 24hrs post creation. Starting to settle and see a bunch of red copepods. Also have 3 Caddisfly larvae in there I haven’t captured a decent picture or video of yet. Tomorrow should be much more clear.

Invertebrate and plant suggestions for a planted small bowl?

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 05:24 PM PDT

I have a glass globe that holds about 1 gallon (about 7.5" in diameter) and hangs in a string harness from a hook like a plant. Because of this, it's tough to have artificial light or an air bubbler/filter. I'm hoping to fabricate or find some type of LED puck to sit on top or tiny gooseneck light I can attach to the wall, but don't have anything yet. Suggestions for a real plant/aquarium light are very welcome.

I'd thought to keep cherry shrimp or similar in it, but I'm told that without an air stone they (and any type of vertebrate) wouldn't do well. With that in mind, I'm thinking of just doing a planted tank, and hopefully I can add some invertebrates.

I'd love any suggestions on what to put in this tank. It only gets a medium amount of indirect light, so anything that goes in it will need to be happy in low light. No heater, so ambient room temps (65-78F).

I'd love to have some invertebrates swimming around in it, I've seen suggestions ranging from fairy shrimp or copepods to snails. They would need to be able to live in the non-aerated water (lots of plants though). Something that could reproduce would be very cool.

I welcome any suggestions, or links to similar setups. Also, if there is another place I should ask this question please let me know!

First try - tons of bubbles on surface

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I put together a jararium with stuff around the house and then bought a small anubias, Dwarf Sagittaria, and a moss ball. I kind of already know I have too many things in such a small "jar" but for a first try I just went with it to see what would happen.

It's been about 3 weeks and there's been bubbles forming at the top. Is that a problem and what's causing it?

Here's a pic of it as well https://imgur.com/HfmgwxQ

Not really a Jar, but my girlfriend started her mini-eco system! She is planning to close it tomorrow...

Found this near basketball sized mound of moss at my dads house I’m gunna come back for. Anyone know what the little plant coming out it is and if it would survive a jarrarium? Near STL, MO.

[LF] - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania- Opae Shrimp Jar

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 04:58 PM PDT

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is staying safe during these times! Would anyone be willing to make me a shrimp jar or any other cool jarrarium? I love these and simply do not have the time/knowledge/sources to make one. I would pay for cost of everything, time, shipping etc! If anybody is up for this challenge please let me know :)

Pond in a Jar Day 16

Not much has happened since 7 except I took a dragonfly nymph out on Day 15. He was actually hiding very well and wouldn't see him for days. I also got rid of this because I think it was eating some of my smaller critters. I still see some copepods swimming around and occasionally a tiny snail.

Flower bud reached the top of closed terrarium?

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 11:47 AM PDT

Hey everyone,

I have a closed glass jar terrarium. In the middle I have a planted orchid. The stem has reached the top of the jar and is coming into contact with the lid. My question is, will it continue to bloom or is my lid going to kill it? The bud seems to be pointing downwards and isn't face on with the lid. But I'm still worried it might not bloom. Anyone else have experience with this? Thanks!
