Parasites?

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 10:56 PM PDT

My goldfish have had white stringy poop which I've read is a sign of internal parasites. I did some research and tried a quarantine in API general cure, even dosing their food, with no results after a month. Looking for suggestions on treatment and medicine

My Goldfish Rum when I first bought her and now, is it normal for a Goldie to lose their markings like this? It’s been around 7 months.

What’s with the behavior ? I started to see this behavior last night (April 20). I’m going to add LIVE plants for my goldfishes

Help! New (bad) goldfish mum, and now there are babies!

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 03:26 AM PDT

I want to preface this by saying that I know I have probably f**ked up and i dont know what I am doing so I am asking for help. I have never posted on Reddit either. Please be kind...

About 6 weeks ago, I received 4 large goldfish and 2 plecos in a 4ft (200L) tank, complete with live plants, an aquatopia hydroflow 1600 filter, ornimants and rocks from a friend who was moving across the state and could not take her fish with her. She came to my house to set the tank up, and the water was so cloudy for the first 12 hours because of the gravel I couldn't even see the fish... I have never owned fish myself up until this point, so I have been fumbling my way along mostly just listening to the instructions given to me by my friend. Along with the fish, she also provided food pellets for the goldfish, wafers for the plecos and flourish for the plants.

So when I received these fish, i tried my best to try and make the tank as good as i could for them. One of the fish had a very swollen belly and was told by my friend that she thought that it was holding eggs and had been for about 6 months, but wasnt sure. After having these fish for about 3 weeks, the fish seemed unhappy and stressed, and the fish wish the swollen belly started to float on the top of the tank, tail up, and wasnt moving much or eating.

I did some research online and was really unsure of what to do so I went down to the local pet barn and asked for advice. They advised me that I needed to put primer and good bacteria into the water (keeping in mind I was just following my friends instructions up until this point and feel really bad that I had no idea how to care for these lovely fish properly) to try and stabilise it as i had just been putting treated tap water into the tank and that would be more than likely what was making the fish act that way. I purchased what they recommended, and did what they said to do and i crossed my fingers.

2 days ago, i came home to find that the swollen fish was floating in the plants on its side, not moving. I nudged her and tried to get her to move for about 5 mins, but her gills werent moving. I scooped her out of the tank and helped my heartbroken 4yo bury her (she cried for about 2 hours).

And then today, when i looked into the tank I found about 30 baby fry, and about 20 baby snails in the tank. I have no idea if the bloated goldfish was the pregnant fish, or if perhaps it was one of the others who has spent alot of time inside a tunnel in the last 3 weeks at the bottom of the tank, but I have no idea how to look after baby goldfish!

I contacted the pet barn again, and they said that the stabilising of the tank probably caused the sudden boom of all of these babies, and the snails probably came from the plants but are not the sort of snails that you buy to clean the alge in your tank, and are a pest and i should remove them from the tank. They also said to just leave the baby gold fish in the tank with the 3 remaining adults and the 2 plekos and to just continue to treat the fish as normal, feeding them the goldfish pellets once a day and leaving the high powered filter on? (This doesnt seem right to me and the filter is off) I really don't want anything to happen to these babies, and I am really trying to learn! I know I have been a bad fish mum up until now, so please go easy on me. I want to do the best i can to look after them. HELP!!

Water adjustment questions.

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 01:24 PM PDT

1) To raise the alkalinity (KH) can I just use Sodium Bicarbonate?

2) To raise the PH can I just use Sodium carbonate?

3) To raise the calcium hardness (GH) can I just add calcium?

4) What would be a safe rate to adjust the water chemistry?

I have a 50 gal tank.

As of today: PH: under 6 Alkalinity: 40 Calcium: 125 Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: 160 Temp: 82°F

Has my goldfish outgrown his tank?

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:12 AM PDT

We got a goldfish back in October of 2018 from the fair. We didn't know what were getting into. After the first night we went to PetSmart and following their advice we bought a 20 gallon tank, gravel, filter, live plant and decoration.

1.6 years later, here we are. Corndog (my girlfriend named him) has grown a lot, probably 5 times his size (I will post a picture after this post).

We have switched his food, same brand and flavor, but the pebbles are larger. I noticed that Corndog is spitting back all his food and not eating as much and he circling up the tank constantly.

I'm afraid he has outgrown his tank and maybe we made a mistake by switching his food as well. He also "plays" with his gravel a lot.

Also, how would I know if Corndog is male or female? I have always assumed he is a male.

Thanks for the help and advice.

Hi I just got a pearlscale two days ago and he has been floating I thought maybe he was constipated so I was going to have him fast for three days and then feed him peas but just today I saw that he was not constipated is it normal for pearlscale to float? I saw a video that it was but he seems to be floating more then the ones in the video.

So my black moor and a orange telescope are showing breeding behaviours and I would love some fry. Does anyone know what colour the fry will turn out?

Hey guys! Setting up a tank for 2 orandas, and I have questions.

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 09:23 AM PDT

Like the title says, the wife and I are setting up a 40 gallon breeder this week when we move into our new home. We wanted a pretty tank for the living room and already own a 40 gallon breeder and I've convinced her of orandas! I wanted a si.ple tank set up: Bare bottom, black background, air stone, vibrant lighting and a single decoration. So, we have all that figured out, theres justxone thing missing..2 actually... The fish! Where do you guys buy your fish and how is all that working in the midst of Covid-19? I've combed through this sub and found Goldfish Island and King Koi. Just wondering if there are other reliable sources.

I've read through the guide provided by the sub but am open to any other tips you guys may have. Such as filtration.
•How good do underwater or sponge filters work for goldfish?

•Where do you guys keep you PH?

• Heater or no heater?

• Feeding. (I feed all my fish Bug Bites, Wardley Pellets, New Life Spectrum, and frozen blood worms.)

Thanks in advance! I've been dreaming of this tank for a long time and cant wait to get it cycled and set up!

Ich? Black moor has some fin rot and cottony? Fuzzy? Small white spot mid top section of top back fin. I treated whole tank with kanaplex a week ago bc another one had dropsy. Is this bacterial? Should I try something like Marycyn 2?
