Goldfish with swim bladder issue too stressed to eat pea

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 09:51 PM PDT

I have a large rather archbacked oranda in a 150 gallon 5 tankmates with what seems to be typical constipation, no outward signs of illness. He is having floating issues, which are stressing him out:

1)if he stays still, his floating issues slowly rotate him onto his side/ belly, which is a stressful position, so he has to flash downwards. 2) if he keeps moving, however, he gets too tired.

I tried feeding him peas but his tankmates ate them due to their much increased mobility. Then, I tried feeding him a pea on a flat- end toothpick, but he is a skittish fish and was too afraid of my hand. I had to resort to washing my hands well and gently cupping him up to the waters' surface, holding the pea near his mouth until he blooped it. Unfortunately he spit it out ( i assume due to the stressful situation) once I let him go and swam away.

I don't want to cause him any more undue stress as stress can be pretty deadly for fish. 1) should I try to hand feed him again? 2) any gentle medications I should air on the side of caution and use in the off case he has an internal infection with no external signs? 3) should I use aq salts to help prevent stress induced infections or will the increased bouyancy stress him out so much it won't make a difference? 4) any other tips or suggestions

Thanks so much.

My fish has been sitting at the bottom of the tank away from the others for about a day now. Every 1-2 minutes he will swim in a small circle then sit back down. Is there something wrong and what can I do.

How should I try and get my new goldfish used to there new tank

They only want to stay in one corner of the tank. Should I just wait or is there something I can do.

White Bump on Head - Comet Goldfish

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 03:38 PM PDT

Hey guys,

I noticed a lump today on my year-old comet goldfish. He's in a 37-gallon bowfront with two aqua clear 50 filters. Tank mates include a Siamese algae eater and a couple of Amano shrimp. I've never dealt with disease before so I'm not sure what it could be. I did a little bit of reading and I'm hoping it's carp pox.

Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure my goldfish has problem with his swim bladder he is constantly laying on his side and he tries to swim and he goes in spirals and can't even make it to the top of the tank. he is not bloated and he has another fish in the tank with him so i don't quite know how to feed him because the other fish just takes his portion before it can reach the bottom of the tank and I don't know what to do, he seems interested in food bu the can't got too it. and I don't know whats causing it to I don't know how to fix it exactually

I am in the beginning process of building a fish tank stand and I was wondering the dimensions of a 45 gallon tank since I'm wanting to get one soon?

Help me take care of my fishies!

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 11:50 AM PDT

With all this staying inside I've become much more aware of the behavior and care of my fishies. I adopted these fish from a roommate that didn't invest much time in their care (no bad feelings, they have finals and I'm an out of work day care worker so I'm just dying to take care of something!).

I have two (comet?) goldfish that are ~4 inches body length without tail fins, with one slightly larger than the other. They both live in a 15 gallon tank (which with some research I fear is too small). In the past they haven't seemed stressed or cramped. I changed out half the water yesterday and scraped the walls a bit.

Today I decided to try giving them some fresh food (apple, carrot, pea) and looked up how to prepare them. As I sit here watching them forage for it, I notice the smaller one starting to follow the larger one and bumping/nuzzling on the underside. It's gotten more active and insistent in the past hour. They don't seem to be avoiding each other or chasing around the tank, they just bump each other and spin in circles nosing each other.

Is this aggression? Mating? Playing? Are they suddenly more active because of the clean tank and new food? I've never seen them do this before and they always seemed pretty calm and neutral towards each other. I want to give them the world right now, but it may be difficult with no going outside and having a small apartment. Help?

Goldfish and planted tank. Is it possible?

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 11:33 AM PDT

I rescued 2 comet goldfish few weeks ago since my friend can't take good care of them anymore however I really wanted to add aquatic plants to their tank. I tried putting moss and ludwigia but they ate it 🤦🏻‍♂️ any tips for me?

I saw a few post in here that have plants in their tank, could it be the plant that i put in there or it just depends on my goldfish whether they'll eat it or it?

Thanks!
