| Posted: 17 Apr 2020 11:44 PM PDT I have a lonesome single-tail goldfish who is in need of company. I got him in a tiny fish bowl about a year and a half ago. At the moment, he is in a 30 gal tank, but he is growing fast. With the stimulus check from the IRS, I'm looking to upgrade. What are the best options for tank buddies? I really only have the room for a 75 gal tank, maybe a smidge more if I get creative with arranging my apartment. So I'm aiming for tank mates with fairly low space requirements At the moment, I'm considering a small school of rosy barbs (maybe 4?) as they seem to have similar tank requirements and need less space than getting additional goldfish. Any advice is appreciated! [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 17 Apr 2020 08:45 PM PDT Hi everyone, we have a goldfish who is about 8 years old and we had recently gotten some smaller goldfish to keep him company but we noticed today that our old goldfish had a bite on it's fin from the smaller ones we saw them biting it (we removed the small fishes). What can we do to help a goldfish bite? Or is there anything we can do to help ensure that his wound heals? I can upload images of him bite if necessary. Thank you!! [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 17 Apr 2020 05:55 PM PDT Back again. I made a post a while ago here. I've been consistent with daily water changes but it looks like my fish has gotten worse. I noticed raised flesh by his right pectoral fin maybe a week ago. Behavior has been mostly normal since then. He's as hungry as always, still active when I walk up to the tank, and coloring hasn't seem to change much (he's always gone from velvety black to kind of burnish gold/chocolate). I've noticed he's been more subdued during the day and floating/sleeping instead of foraging around. That's the only behavioral change and it's not too bad. It's hard to photograph but his lump has gotten larger and has changed color some. White patches (flesh? fungus?) is starting to push up through the scales. I have pics from a few days ago in my last post, and here's updated pictures. It's a 20 gal established tank, one fish (had for almost 2 years) 5 ramshorns (had at least 8 months old). I got sand substrate four weeks ago and had two snails die and my fish has been eating and passing sand. Parameters as of an hour ago: Temp: 78 F (pretty warm here) pH: 7.4-7.6 Ammonium: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 0-5 ppm Still probably a tumor. But holding out some home that it may be from a fungus, bacterial infection, or maybe parasites. If you have experienced anything like this I'd appreciate hearing about it! [link] [comments] | ||
| Desperately trying to find female ranchu in the US to balance out males in 75g. (Details in post) Posted: 17 Apr 2020 09:06 AM PDT Hi! Unfortunately, my 2 male ranchu have taken to ganging up on my female to the point where she's sustaining injuries. I'd like to increase the number of females, but I'm having a very frustrating time finding some to buy. Both Coast Gem USA and King Koi have been awful at responding to emails and messages on social media and East Coast Ranchu doesn't sex their fish. Does anyone have any other places I can check out? Thanks! [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 17 Apr 2020 02:56 PM PDT I have a 125 gal tank with only one side that is lighted (for the plants). Are there any lighting brands/models that are affordable and bright enough to illuminate such a big tank? (I don't need any specifically for the plants, because I only keep them on one side of the tank.) [link] [comments] | ||

| How do you guys test your water? Posted: 17 Apr 2020 01:45 PM PDT So I'm new to this but the way I've been doing it is weekly tests just before a 40-50% water change. Then after the water change i'll test again on anything that was high/low. What do you guys do? Should I just do the water change and then test? Do you guys do mid week tests? [link] [comments] | ||
| Update on Hubert: Definitely has dropsy. Only gotten worse since quarantine. Considering euthanasia. Posted: 17 Apr 2020 01:45 PM PDT I made a previous post about Hubert acting weird and having a red spot on his side. I have since figured out he has dropsy and the red spot was just an air burn which has since healed. I've had him quarantined and medicated with Seachem Kanaplex and raised the temperature of the water to 80 degrees F. Each day he has gotten worse, he has now ballooned so much I feel terrible. The only thing stopping me from euthanizing him is that he still has such a fighting spirit and will still eagerly eat from my hand when given the chance. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 17 Apr 2020 07:03 AM PDT My water supply has a naturally high pH, at around 8 last time I tested. Is this too high for goldfish? How can I reduce the pH? [link] [comments] |
