**Care Basics**

When preparing a tank for axolotls, please keep the following in mind:

-Minimum of 10 gallons per axolotl, and never use a tank smaller than 20 gallons even for single axolotl

-Wide and shallow tanks are best suited for axolotls, please do not use vertical tanks

-Best substrates are sand, very large rocks, or bare bottom tanks. Axolotls can accidentally ingest rocks the size of their head or smaller when eating, which can be fatal

-Axolotls like cool water with low flow, currents will stress them out

-Provide at least one hide per axolotl, and keep in mind they do not like bright light

-Axolotls will enjoy eating a varied diet containing: earthworms, frozen/fresh bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, and salmon pellets

-NO TANKMATES! Axolotls are not suited to share a tank with anything besides other axolotls. Any axolotls kept together must be of similar sizes.

New tank setup and started using filter. Covered it so there’s a tiny amount of water flow to keep my lil dude from getting stressed. Also just turned on my lights to get the picture. Also he has these fleshy white bumps all over him and can’t find any answers on any forums. Should i be worried??

HELP- Fungus??

Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:55 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I got my axie about a month ago, and he'd been doing very well. But today I woke up to find some white/clearish spots on his gills?

http://imgur.com/gallery/qjJ0AR4

I'm wondering if this is fungus? Any help is hugely appreciated! He's about 5 inches currently, and has not shown any changes in behavior. He's still eating, walking, and swimming just fine.

Ammonia levels are .25 ppm. Don't know how it got to that but I'm going to do a water change today to bring that down. Nitrites are 0 ppm, Nitrates are 20 ppm, Temp is 64 degrees.

Thanks again for helping!

I need help! My axolotls gills are turned forward.

Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:41 PM PDT

I've had the two of my axolotls for awhile, and they never seemed to have any problems. Up until one of my axolotls swam frantically into the glass, which I don't know could be the reason his gill is turned forward. I have a 20 gallon tank and two axolotls, along with a sponge filter but that's all. Someone please help me, I don't know if I should be worried or not. I have read they can become stressed, or maybe sick, or their gills are just very long. But I need answers, please anyone respond so I can help my babies! I can show pictures too
