I have a problem with chilling aquarium

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 06:33 AM PDT

Hello, guys. I need your help! I have an axolotl for 3 months already and since that main problem was to keep water cold. Me and my father decided to "build" our own system. It is based on Peltier device. I ordered all parts from aliexpress, but until they arrived I was chilling water with bottles of ice. It was efficient, but lame.
So, all parts arrived and my father built "the system". It has 8 Peltier devices, 2 radiators and 4x80mm fans and it uses filter as a pump. But the problem is it keeps the temperature on one level. For a test we waited for temperature to be at 19 degrees. We kept "the system" running for 15 minutes and water was still on 19 degrees! And my questions:

  1. How do you chilling the water to needed temperature?

  2. If there's anyone who knows physics better can help with that problem it would be much appreciated.

If I am not that stupid there are two possible reasons for that:

  1. Water circulates too fast and just can't chill.

  2. "The system" is too weak to chill 60l of water.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Took this while I was cleaning my tank, I’ve always wondered why my Axolotls are so small/thin compared to others I’ve seen?

What’s the best Wattage for an axolotl tank?

Posted: 16 Apr 2020 05:50 AM PDT

So I know axolotls don't like a lot of light in their tanks but at the moment my axie's tank is looking rather miserable without any light. The tank I bought came with a 15W light and he always goes straight to his hide when I turn it on, so it's obviously too bright. What would be a suitable wattage so it doesn't upset my axolotl yet makes his tank look a little nicer?

Axolotl water

Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:58 PM PDT

Hello, I am newer to the family, and am wondering, I have seen conflicting reports about using bottled water for the axolotl, it was unexpected that I came into on, and I dechlorinated the water, but I'm worried about cycling the tank, and he is still a baby, and stressed trying to acclimate to a new environment. What are my best options?

Good stand options for 20g long

Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:02 PM PDT

So, I'm looking to set up my first axolotl tank. I have a 20g long tank but am having trouble finding a good stand. Any ideas? Any thing you guys have found? Maybe not an aquarium stand proper but something that will support the weight? Thanks in advance!

New owners! We’ve had Ande for about a month. Today they were acting kind of low key and hasn’t wanted to eat. The water nitrate and nitrite levels were high so we did a 20% water change. Any advice please?

Cycling question

Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:43 PM PDT

I recently got my juvenile axolotl Monday wnd introduced him into my 15gal. The tank had been established and cycled for years, however moving it to my new place from my dad's, I removed all the gravel which I think was a big part of the bacteria of the tank. The filter media was reused, new conditioned water was filled and 2 days later (monday) my pH is 7.4, amnonia and nitrite levels are 0, nitrate is also at 0, which makes me think most of my bacteria was lost.

Can I use seachem stability while my axy is in the tank? Any other tips to help cycle the tank a little quicker?

New axolotl.

Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:22 PM PDT

Hello, I'm gettin a new axolotl tomorrow. He'll be my second now. I just had a quick thing to say. I emptied my 20 gallon tank into buckets, put the filter and sponge filter into said buckets to keep bacteria alive. I just siliconed into place a new decoration, it says don't get water on it for 12 hours. so it'll be done 2-3 hours before I get the axolotl. Now if I keep the water in buckets until it is cured, my tank should still be cycled tomorrow since my filters are in tank waters. If anyone wants to let me know how they feel about this let me know!

Algae eaters/algae control?

Posted: 15 Apr 2020 09:15 PM PDT

Ive been doing my axo research and was wondering if anyone had any advice on algae control? I feel like any sort of pleco would be too aggressive and any shrimp would get eaten. How do folks keep algae under control?
