Ammonia poisoning? Parasites? NEED SERIOUS HELP! Posted: 26 Apr 2020 05:48 AM PDT I've been feeding my 2 axolotls goldfish. They're in a 55 gallon tank with a divider. I got 40 goldfish (I thought I did but the petsmart employee gave me at least 50). I divided them amount the two. In my leucistic axolotl side(aloha) all of the goldfish died at once and it kept happening the next day. He started to act weird. Burying himself up the bridge. So I took him out and put him in an isolation tank. He pooped a little while after that and had very little movement. I put him in the refrigerator and he's now completely unresponsive. He looks very skinny, pale, gills are partially white, veins showing, & he threw up a few days ago. It's been about 14 hours since I put him in the fridge. I just did a water change and it's like he's dead but he's not hard like he should be if he's dead. I tested my water for ammonia and it was around 2ppm. I started to treat it but I'm not sure about what to do for aloha. My other axolotl (enchilada) is perfectly fine and his side of the tank doesn't have any ammonia. [link] [comments]
HELP! I'm in need of some information Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:14 AM PDT So my sister decided to leave her axo with me because her room is over crowded with animals. I have never owned a fish or aquatic animal before so was a bit worried about caring for it but she reassured me that she will help me over the phone and guide me weekly. She didn't tell me anything about the care needed for him, just that you have to feed him every two days and clean the filter every week. Which is what I have been doing for about 1-2 months now. Now she would call me every week to talk about life but never anything about her axo. So I thought that everything was okay. And when I did mention him and showed her the tank, she just admired her axo. Nothing else. About a week ago, I noticed that the tank started to get algae on the glass. So I called her up and she said that just wipe it down. And then the water kept getting greener and muskier. So once again I called her up and she said clean the filter and he will be fine. So now I getting annoyed because nothing she is advising me to do is working so I started researching it and, low and behold you need to monitor the pH level, you need to clean the tap water before adding into the tank, and clean the sand. The pH was 9, which from researching is way too high. So have bought some pH minus to slowly bring it down. I've cleaned the sand (which then showed me how dirty and disgusting the tank really is). So I've had to change the water (not all of the water as I think he has to have some of his bacteria in the tank to keep him healthy). Basically I wanna know if what I'm doing is right and what do I need to do to look after this axolotl. Please help :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Apr 2020 10:38 PM PDT The live earthworms I usually feed my 'lotl all died unexpectedly after somehow twisting themselves together into a ball, and since I couldn't get replacement food as soon as my little guy would've liked, I fed him a slice of hard boiled egg instead. I couldn't find anything online on whether that's an acceptable food for them or not, so I just fed him a little the first day. Of course he ate it with no problem, and didn't seem to be sick or uncomfortable afterwards. I've been feeding him that for the last week now and he seems to like it just as much as the earthworms, but does anyone know if it's actually a healthy diet? A herpetologist friend of mine said it should be fine but I know chicken eggs obviously aren't a natural part of the axolotl diet, so I just wanna get some other thoughts on it. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:53 AM PDT Hey guys, wondering what kind of lighting will show my tank off nicely plus safe for axolotls eyes. I also am running a school of 24 neon tetras and some cherry shrimp in there. It's a 40 gallon tank. I have live, lowlight plants (anubias, java fern) with some more on their way and axolotls will be added in a few weeks. Already know my tetras are going to be eaten and most likely my shrimp, this isn't an issue for me I don't really care and can always top up (or move them to my 30 gallon tank if I get too attracted before axies are added, they are pretty cute) I just want it to be shown off really nice and have the colours really pop. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 12:44 AM PDT So my axolotl hasn't eaten in over two weeks, I've tested her waters and everything is fine, the temperature is also fine, there would be moments where her gills are curved forward but then they would go back to normal. Every time i try to feed her she would have no reaction at all, still moves around a bit but still hasn't been acting like herself, she might of done something to give her a fright to make her be this way but I'm not sure. At this point I'm starting to run out of options and i don't know what to do so if anybody has any ideas then that would be great. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:41 PM PDT We are considering getting ourselves a little aquatic boy, but we are afraid our cat might find him as a tasty treat especially with no lid, just looking for any advice or people who own both animal and give me there experience. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:19 PM PDT I just got my axolotl and for the couple weeks I had my tank cycling before actually getting him I had it perfectly sitting at 62F but just before I got him I capped my filter with a sponge to limit the water flow in the tank, I guess in doing so the decrease in flow increased the temperature of the tank and I am now at 68F I have a fan running on the tank and I live in Canada so room temp is quite cool. I'm not sure what else I can do, I definitely can not afford one of the actual water chillers they're hundreds of dollars, I could uncap the filter but it creates a fair amount of water movement. Anyone have any advice? [link] [comments]
