- Beware! If youre looking for play sand for your axolotl do not buy this brand. It has a ton of gravel and I found both a piece of glass and an actual piece of poop in it while sifting!

I have two little axies and I was keeping them in a 20 gal with a petzilla aquarium fan, and on the low setting it kept the water at about 64 degrees. Since they're growing, I just recently cycled a 30 gal and put them in. The problem is the fan I was using now only keeps the water at 68 even on the high setting. | Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:13 AM PDT Hey I've recently purchased an axolotl and I'm curious on wether or not it's settling in well and feels comfortable. He's been very active during the afternoon and evening. Most of the time he just chills on the floor but when he does swim he repetitively bumps onto the glass and I'm not sure if he's just dumb or stressed. He seems fine otherwise and I love having him around! He does sometimes have his gills curled but not often.
