My new house came with a very dilapidated pond. Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:54 PM PDT So, my new house came with a Koi pond. https://imgur.com/gallery/Np57iWI Story is: this was an estate sale. Have very little information about everything but we believe the previous owners suffered age and health issues that stopped the upkeep on a lot of things. Unfortunately, there is decaying evidence of a Koi that lived in this pond. There are also corpses in the chicken coup too. We found some pictures that show the pond after install. There has been a lot of changes/things removed since then. We'll be getting a professional out to help with the pump/tank/plumbing situation. Hopefully learning some things on this subreddit while we wait for all the businesses to get back up and running. Okay now the question: what is the best thing to do with this pond in the meantime? My gut instinct is to drain it, clean it all and start again, but I saw and heard some things about it being hard to get the lily pads growing again. The water is filthy full of algea and pond scum and one of the pumps(an add on we think for a fountain) is leaking oil. So do we drain it entirely clean it out and start again? Get a small pump/filter setup to keep it from being the mosquito sex club that it is right now? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
