Here is the place to post questions about pest ID, coral/fish ID, your cycle, or any other questions that generally wouldn't start up a conversation. If you have an interesting or unique question please create a new thread so everyone can discuss it in length!

These are some great resources for ID's of pests/algae.

Sarcophyton!

since I’m stuck at home for a few weeks I’m determined to figure this out. No idea what to do with this guy since I got him. Some days he’s inflated with short sweepers, other days he looks like this. He’s eaten and has been firmly planted since I put him in that spot. I’ve tried everything I can.

Looking for first 3 saltwater fish (Ocellaris pair+another fish)

Posted: 21 Mar 2020 12:44 AM PDT

I will try to get the fish as small as possible. The dealers I'm looking at in China have captive bred Clowns but almost all of their other fish are caught from Indonesia and the Philippines. They usually quarantine their fish for 4 days to a week. I am not sure if 2 Ocellaris Clowns (common or black, I won't get designer clowns as I am not a fan of them) introduced at the same time will fight, if they're not already a bonded pair.

I'm looking at a third fish to introduce at around the same time, that's a good pal with the clowns, it should be hardy and long-lived (able to push 8-9 years or more).

Feel free to give suggestions and comments, but here's what I am thinking so far. There's a good chance my tank (32" x 22" x 24") will have a mesh cover (hopefully 1.4" gaps or less) and I'll also work on the overflow (but not sure what to do) to do everything I can to stop my fish from escaping. Good chance=70-80%.

Here's what I am thinking of introducing along with the Clowns:

  1. A Halichoeres wrasse (Melanthurus, Yellow Coris, Red Lined, Christmas, Adorned)-My sand bed will be 2-2.5" thick and I'll be getting these guys when they're 5-6cm or smaller.

  2. Yellow Candy Hogfish-I'll try to get them 5-6cm or less.

  3. A Lined wrasse (Four, Six, Mystery)-I'll try to get them 5-6cm or less.

  4. Yellow Watchman Goby (I'll get them as small as possible and I might introduce a shrimp with it)

  5. A Basslet (Royal Gramma, Swissguard)-again, as small as possible, 4-5cm perhaps.

  6. A Golden Assessor *now I don't know much about these fish in terms of their hardiness, lifespan, or any special requirements. They're pricey here ($55 USD each).

  7. This is a risk because it'll be a completely new tank but I've seen Coral Beauties sold for 4-5cm or 5-6cm or maybe even a Flameback Angel.

I'll only be keeping soft corals, no stony corals because of budget concerns.

Thanks.
