Emergency tank issues?

Posted: 07 Mar 2020 07:00 PM PST

Hey all. Just recently went to squeez a capful of zooplankton into my 25 gallon and had to watch as the seal wasn't fully pierced and blew 1/4 bottle into and all around the tank.

As I sit here mixing and draining for a 50% water change I'm wondering what crazy messes others have had to deal with?

Looking for more info. I have a 3 month old 27 gal nano the last fish I added was a coral beauty and royal gramma on February 15. Things have been going really well then all of a sudden they both died yesterday and last night.....

I tested the water and the Only thing off was the nitrate, which was 20. Yesterday I changed 5 gallons and retested. It was lower a little, maybe between 10-20 and did another change this morning. I just came home from shopping and now my other fish looks like it has a film over its fins. I'm assuming some sorta fungus or bacterial infection. I have sechems Paraguard and was reading about the safety with coral and dosed it at half strength right now to make sure my corals don't die. I am open to other suggestions. This is my first salt water aquarium and thought I was doing really well.....and then this happened.

New to the hobby, I made the noob mistake 6 months ago to buy the cheap plastic Hydrometer. Don’t Make This Mistake! Spend 20 bucks on a Refractometer like the one below. My cheapo read 1.025. My new calibrated refractometer read 1.029. I knew something was off but couldn’t figure it out until now.

Hi, my Ophiure try to escape my tank :/. it's Ophiolepis superba. I make a good cleaning and water change few hours before for the arrival of my Synchiropus splendinus. Salinity is good, it not really change. Temperature, pH, KH same. I didn't move live rocks where he was hide. Any guess? Thks

Small but powerful led?

Posted: 07 Mar 2020 08:00 PM PST

Hey,

Been out of the game for a while but pulled out an old 29g biocube that I plan to use as a reef tank.

It's got the old set of compact fluorescents, and I would like to tear these out and retrofit i ago when I was way more into the hobby!

What are some of the top LEDs right now?

I would like to keep the top as I like the complete look, however I was thinking of removing the top, cutting a plexiglass cover, and using a viparspectra light hung above the tank.

First for some background, I've been running this 90 gallon RR tank for a year now; the pair of orange storm clownfish were two of my first inhabitants (added shortly after the lawnmower blennie). I have a 20 gallon sump with protein skimmer, heaters, and a refugium growing a healthy ball of chaeto. Also I just recently replumbed the whole system to use a Jaebo DC pump and external PVC plumbing for the return so that I could use the two pre-drilled holes in my overflow as a Herbie-style drain back into the sump. I also began dosing ~2 mL Brightwell Coralamino per day at the start of this month to see if it would have any impact on my coral growth; I think for now I'm going to stop this until I am totally certain of what is happening with the fish though...

Here are my most recent parameters on the bottom row of this spreadsheet: https://imgur.com/Z4AkaqO

Over the course of the past week I've been keeping a close eye on my Royal Gramma because I noticed it flashing against one of the rocks in my tank (probably this was around the 2nd of this month). Nothing looked too abnormal about the fish at that time, other than in certain lights at the exact right angle the purple part on its head looked a little blotchy (though it could have always been this way to be honest it's really subtle.)

Today I noticed he is starting to loose some of his color and has a cluster of very tiny white bumps on his head as well, which is again only seems to be visible in certain lights. Some pictures: https://imgur.com/6gf2pMV https://imgur.com/VUrvfIp https://imgur.com/vpl4ZQq

Since I was already in investigation mode I also noticed my clowns seem to have similar bumps on them, but I haven't noticed any strange behavior from them (no flashing nor heavy breathing, etc). https://imgur.com/fwDeLwu https://imgur.com/y5JuhAw

Here's a video of them under normal lighting: https://imgur.com/tUGVSj8 https://imgur.com/P551pwH

All the fish still seem to have a good appetite and the corals and BTA seem to be happy from what I can tell.

Please can anyone help me out?
