New to this. Which animals will survive/benefit my jarrarium? There are already a few ants in it.

Question about my Marimo ball

Posted: 24 Mar 2020 09:50 PM PDT

Hi friends :)

I have a marimo ball that is currently all alone in a 2 gallon tank. It has a small filter on it because I read that they like a slight current because it is close to their natural habitat underwater in lakes but he just doesn't seem to be thriving in there. He's fine, but just fine.

There's no dirt or any other plants.

I was wondering if he might do better in a closed jar? I'm near a river and could go get him some in a big mason jar.

If it's a good idea, do I also gather sediment or just water alone? Do I wait to put him in there and let the water settle? How soon would I close the jar? Should I buy a snail?

I really appreciate it!!
