New water boiis: pearlscale, telescope, and lionhead goldfish

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 05:00 PM PDT

Can’t leave the house because my parents are on immunosuppressants and COVID is in our area - so I am obsessively rescaping tanks. Anyone have any other ideas to entertain myself with my aquariums while essentially in house arrest?

[vent] my dad is moving and won't bring our 2 goldfish and this is so rough

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 12:51 PM PDT

I don't live with my dad. I live in a 2nd floor apartment and the biggest I can get away with is ~40g so I can't take them. I love them. their names are Nova and Misty, they are two beautiful, happy comet goldfish. I think they are about 3-4 years old and like 7 inches long (hard to tell exactly). I do all the tank maintenance and my dad feeds them. recently he announced he and his girlfriend are moving in together next summer & getting married. he is selling the house I grew up in and he will have nothing to do with keeping any of my childhood things, or the fish. I am so sad. I am losing so much. I won't be able to see my dad much once he moves either. his girlfriend put me through years of abuse and i don't speak to her anymore.

i need to find a home for my fish where i can visit them which is going to be hard. It will also be physically very hard to move them because i am severely underweight and have no muscle mass or endurance at all. there's a lot of other shit going on too and i am just so overwhelmed. if you read this thank you, i know this isn't the typical post for this sub

Are my bois happy?

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 11:16 PM PDT

Went away for a week and my Goldfish is now Black. I had a disposable tablet of food in the tank so he was well feed. I also just did a water change. What has caused this and how can I fix him?

Don’t tell the others, but these two are my favourite.

New goldfish bullying the others

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 11:29 PM PDT

Alright so I have a fish tank with 5 fish at the moment, 4 goldfish and one pleco. I have a telescope, ryukin, and 2 orandas. I just got a new oranda fish today to replace the one that died a few weeks ago. the problem is, he is about an inch bigger than the others, and he enjoys chasing them around the tank, not leaving them alone. My tank is 29 gallons btw. Any tips on how to stop the bullying?

Getting bigger tank for my babies. Question on moving them?

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 09:33 AM PDT

When we get our income tax refund, we are going to invest in a bigger tank for our goldfish. What's the best way to move them? Do I set it up like a new tank and then wait for it to cycle? Or what do you recommend? It will be going from 40 gallons to 125 gallons.

Help.

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 05:19 PM PDT

So my brother has a tank of goldfish, today I realised one of the goldfish(Napoleon) is missing its tail, and you can see red like blood. I am not sure if it is fin rot or one of the other gold fish bit it. I have no experience with fish, but it look like it is painful. Please let me know what can I do, I do not want it to die.

Ammonia nightmare

Posted: 14 Mar 2020 01:51 AM PDT

Hi there, so I'm new to the aquarium world so I'm in desperate need of help as our local aquatics centre is no help at all.

From the beginning, we have a black Moore in a 90L tank which we have had for about a year. No problems with the tank, all tests come back as water quality is perfect. We decided to get a tank upgrade and bought a juwel 180 snd fluval 205 second hand for the black Moore. We "washed" the stones, decor and filter in existing tank water and filled the fluval with sponges from our current filter. Naively we waited about 3 weeks (advised by the aquatics centre) and said we were fine to add 3 new small fancy goldfish so we did.

We tested the ammonia and came back 0.25ppm, no nitrates, no nitrites. So we did daily water changes of around 30%. The ammonia was going down so we were advised to get ammo lock and began adding this daily alongside doing water changes every day but still not change. We added tetrabalance as well and still nothing helped. Then we were advised to add biodigest (all of this with the fish in the tank) so we added 2 vials of biodigest in the hope of bringing the ammonia down.

Ammonia went through the roof by the next day and was at 3ppm and climbing so we put all the fish into our existing tank to be safe. Currently our juwel is at 5.5ppm no nitrates not nitrites and I'm completely lost as to what to do!? I feel like I've failed as we should've waiting longer for the tank to cycle and I'm really stuck as to how to get this tank back on track. Since adding the fancies it's been about 2.5weeks and they have been in our old tank for about a week now and doing great but any help would be much appreciated!!! I'm so lost and giving up hope with all of these mistakes!

New Tank Behaviour? Stressed?

New Tank Behaviour? Stressed?

A few hours ago, I moved my Oranda, Egg, from the qt tank into a new tank. I was originally going to have him join my other goldfish, but decided not to. Anyway, during the time I've had him, I've noticed he's not the best swimmer (or just swims really oddly? My boyfriend just calls it "dumb").

He was doing alright after I put him in the tank. He was quite curious. He seems to have settled down, but he'll hang vertically for long periods of time. I first noticed this when I turned the light off, so I assumed he was resting, but he was literally vertical at the bottom of the tank. Sometimes his fins will still be moving, sometimes it looks like he's just floating in place. He seems to like a spot behind a rock, but I got a clear picture of him below in a corner. Swim bladder issues crossed my mind, however he's looked great in the qt tank. Is he just stressed out? Or might he just rest that way?

Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0.25, Nitrate 0, pH 7.8

And a cute snap I got of him when acclimating. Water is a little cloudy as I was moving some plants around in the sand.

If anybody has any ideas, let me know! Otherwise, I might just be overthinking? I'm a relatively new goldfish owner and I'm so worried one of my fish is going to come down with something.
