Me and my daughter put this one together this week. I got all the supplies before losing my job. A bright spot in our otherwise dim week.

My betta responds to his name, you can see when he notices I’m calling him whilst tending to his bubble nest.

(An unpopular opinion) - roast or agree? While we’re all at home, let me say something scandalous about fish in small tanks and see what you all have to say...

disclaimer my betta is in a 20 gallon tank with filter and heater and is living the dream.

However, I see people on here rain absolute hellfire on folks (often new to the hobby) who are excited to dip their feet in the metaphorical waters of fish-keeping with a betta and a small tank, let's say a classic one gallon tank.

Let's agree that the BEST thing for a betta is at least 3-ish gallons, or whatever the generally accepted volume is, however, it blows my mind when people tell others to literally return a betta and rip on them every comment (instead of wow that's a beautiful fish) if they get excited and share a one gallon betta set up?? The flame they get is unbelievable imo. Is it really better to take a fish out of a one gallon tank with at least a filter and maybe a heater, and put it back into a dirty cup of water to sit on a shelf of a chain pet store till death do us part, or some even less knowledgeable and responsible person picks it up? Come on now, we're better than that.

I agree this sub is a great place for educating those who may be new to the hobby, but there are a lot who seem to think they're the law and offer relentless "free advice" to everyone who doesn't ask for it. While some things may not be ideal, I guarantee a betta will be infinity times happier and healthier in a one gallon set up in a fish lovers home than a half cup of water on a neglected back shelf of a pet store.

Even in clearly advanced and well done set ups posted here, there are too many people jumping in the comments to tell people what they are doing wrong without actually knowing anything about their set up or experience. Let's make people want to care for fish, not hate the community 🤷🏻‍♂️

End rant- agree or roast??
