Little snail home

Posted: 16 Feb 2020 01:50 PM PST

I have a little pond snail that hitchhiked in last summer when I first got into the hobby. He's seen and survived it all, so I'm attached. He's smaller than a tic tac.

I'm treating my tank for hydra, and apparently the treatment can kill pest snails. So I'm moving him to a temp home.

So here are my questions- what would an adequate size be for a container? I have a cylindrical glass that holds about .5 gal. I bought two small live plants for him. No filtration.

I have a mini heater that I put in the container. The temp is about 81. My room temp test container is about 67. My house temp is a steady 70. What's better, cooler or warmer?

[HELP] Exclamation point rasboras not eating, turning black and thinning? Ramshorns and Buceps dying too?

I rescaped my nano tank (35x17x22 cm) slightly over a month ago and recently, I noticed two of my exclamation point rasboras are not as healthy as the others for unknown reasons. I observed them during feeding time, they just ate some of the floating pellets and spat them out? This isn't the first time my tank is experiencing this weird phenomenon, I've had 2 other rasboras die off the same way (not eating -> thinning/+blackened body -> food for Amano shrimp). The other exclamation point rasboras and dwarf rasboras are doing quite well, having their tummies full every time I feed them.

General overview of the rasboras

Notice the very slim abdomen of the rasbora in the background compared to those in front

The other rasbora whose body turned black (extra: dying Bucep on bottom left)

Ramshorn snails are also dying although some baby ramshorns are alive. The empty ramshorn snail shells seem to be dissolving? My friends suspect that my tank water lacks calcium.

Lastly, all my Buceps (e.g. Brownie Phantom) that I've planted in there simply wither away. Now, there's black hair algae and green spot algae seem to be taking over slowly.

I don't have any water test kits apart from a simple yellow litmus paper to 'test' pH. I feed my rasboras "Azoo Ultra Fresh Newborn Fish Micron Shrimp Patties" every day. My fertilising regime is 4 mL Seachem Flourish, 2 mL Seachem Potassium and 2 mL Seachem Iron every week after 20-30% water change. If anyone has any inkling or past experiences with said livestock, please do come forward. I'm in need of your help!
