My axolotl died...

I don't know exactly what happened, I when to feed him this evening and he was dead. Nitrate and Nitrite levels are normal. I suspect he died of ammonia poisoning, but I can't figure out how. The tank was cycled and everything. I will probably get another axolotl, but I'm going to wait a while, this hit me hard. Rest in peace Mizuryu.

Yesterday i planned on getting a fish, i saw this axolotl and decided to buy it (sperk of the moment). I know breif knowledge about them. He is in a small 5 gallon tank beacuse hes half the sjze of my thumb and next week i will be moving him to a ten. Ik this is bad but i have large gravel that im change to a skate bottom i feed him frosne/ dry blood worms snd im buys some shrimp pellets for him. I feed him once in the night, he has some live plants and s small hide but he jist likes to chill buy the plants and im hella confused. He fed perfectly last night. I also dont have a filter in the tank but i will do regularly water changes and i try and remove his poop eith a peppet when possible. But i have a few questions

  1. Along side his diet can i feed him fish flakes as a treat

  2. He dosnt mive alot but he does definitely move a bit

  3. Is it ok not to have a filter and replace that with marimo balls and live plants

4.how many times should i feed bim because the guy said morning and night but im sticking with night? He has half a block of frozen blood worm that i out in his cage water in s tub wnd i tske the worms snd feed him with tweezers.
