Posted: 17 Feb 2020 10:07 AM PST Does anyone know where else to get axolotl eggs except for caudata.org? I've been looking for a few days but I haven't found any there. [link] [comments]

Which facilities keep genetically pure axolotls? Posted: 16 Feb 2020 04:07 PM PST I am constructing a list of animal species which have benefitted or been saved from extinction by captive breeding efforts. I'd add axolotls to the list, but it is of my understanding that the vast majority of captive axolotls today are part tiger salamander and therefore useless to conservation efforts. Does anybody here know of any facility anywhere in the world that keeps purebred, true axolotls so I can add axolotls to the list in good conscience? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2020 01:30 PM PST (i dont know where to post this as it could go in either the leopard gecko, snake or axolotl subreddits so ima just copy and paste it to all of ehm) so i own two axolotls and the only suitable room in my house is my bedroom, the bad news is this room has to stay 22°C air temperature so id need to drop 4 degrees in the axie tank, not to mention this house has no central AC like many in england so it would get to hot in summer for the axies and too cold in winter for the snake and gecko, i have been realizing my only option may be to rehome either my corn snake (which i will not do as she was the first who ive had 10 years) and the leopard or rehome the axolotls. of course i'd rather do neither but it is becoming more and more apparent that i will have to rehome one if i cant strike a fine and delicate balance of temps in my room.this is a last ditch effort kind off thing before i start looling for a new home for my axies. if you need any more information that could help i am happy to oblige. Posted: 16 Feb 2020 12:12 PM PST ive currently got my axie in a 20 gallon long tank, but plan on getting a larger one once i have space to do so. how should i go about moving her to another tank? is it safe to put her directly into a new one? when i got her i did what i would do in the past with fish- put the bag in the water to let the temperatures equalize, then cut the bag open and let her loose. i haven't had any issues with her in terms of water conditions but i want to make sure i do everything right once i transfer her [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2020 02:45 PM PST Has anyone had an axolotl that was permanently missing a limb? Backstory: a few years ago I rescued like 30 juvies from someone that had no clue what they were doing. I managed to get about 17-18 back to full health and even managed to socialize most of them. But there was one beautiful little lavender who had a missing arm. I assumed that it was eaten by one of the others, but I soon noticed that nothing was growing in it's place. Months went by and not even a stub was growing. Eventually, I sold it to an old co-worker because she was a HUGE exotic animal lover/owner and I thought I could trust her. She eventually moved away and after about a year of owning it, the limb was still missing. Shortly after though, the cycle in the tank crashed and she didn't notice. It eventually passed away. I would've helped and done whatever needed to be done, but she moved far away and didn't really reach out to me until it was gone. So, I'm pretty sad about it. But has anyone else ever experienced this? And do you think that maybe it just never grew an arm there to begin with? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2020 01:07 PM PST Hello. I got my axolotl yesterday and I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but my tank is a little cloudy. Is this normal? [link] [comments] |
