- Heres a picture of my first Axolotl. Since this picture I’ve removed the dish he’s in and replaced it with a large flat stone but have black sand as a substrate and a cave structure along with plants. My question is if anyone has any pointers, especially on feeding this guy!!! Out of tanks feeding?

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 08:22 AM PST I'm wondering if you can just feel axolotls JBL axolotl pellets, are they nutritious enough and at what age can they start eating them? [link] [comments]
Tip of gills turning white—possibly fungus? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 05:15 AM PST I've had my axolotl for little over a week now, and lately I've noticed the tip of his gills seems to be turning white. They almost seem like they died. I've been watching him closely, and it doesn't quite look like fungus, but I'm pretty new to this so I'm not totally sure. Here's all the information I have for you. I've been doing 20-80% water changes since I've gotten him. His water parameters all read normal. Temperature is about 67 degrees. He has sand as a substrate and lots of hides (terracotta and driftwood) and live plants. His tank is a 20L and he has a sponge filter. Typically he has only low (natural) light—just enough for the plants. I feed him frozen bloodworms. He seems like a pretty hungry boy as he eats every day. He's about 6-7 inches, so around four months old? Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be happening with his gills? I've thought about starting sat baths, but I've heard mixed stuff about that. Some people say they are foolproof and some people equate it with animal cruelty. Thanks so much for any help or advice. I just want my little guy to be happy and healthy. https://i.imgur.com/aylABkA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZAduxJG.jpg [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Feb 2020 08:19 AM PST I've done a lot of research, but I'm still new to the world of caring for axolotls. I'm getting my first axolotl in 2 days, and I'm having trouble with the pH of my tap water. My water comes out at a pH of 6, and I'm trying to raise it to a 7.4 safely. I heard that placing a media bag of crushed coral in the tank could help, is that true? I have a sponge filter in the tank with live plants, would it be okay to place the bag on top of the sponge filter output? Any help would be so appreciated. I want the tank to have a stable pH by the time she comes home. Thanks for any advice on this! [link] [comments]
Anyone had luck with the stingray filter Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:15 AM PST Just bought it and set it up right now. So far its brilliant but just wanna know peoples opinions, i have a 10gallon tank right now [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Feb 2020 12:49 AM PST Sadly, since I posted about why my axolotl is changing colour, Godzilla died. I didn't realise that I was killing him by having him in such a small tank. I am new to this all and didn't know what I was doing. I really sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings about having him in such a small tank. I am sorry again for upsetting anyone and I don't think I'll be getting another axolotl soon, [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:14 AM PST So I got an Axolotl a few days ago from a local pet store. There were probably 10 babies, all pretty beat up, living in a smallish tank. I'm sure it wasn't ideal living conditions. Anyway, when I got her into my tank she seemed fine. Kinda hid the first night but after we fed her the next morning, she started coming out more and now she seems totally fine....but I think she's constipated. At one point someone bit off her back foot so she can't walk too well anyway, but I think her butt is kinda floating up and her belly is pretty black. Also idk if she has pooped or not. What does Axolotl poop look like? There are a couple small black dots on the sand, but I can't tell if that poop or a small speck is dirt from a worm. She doesn't refuse food and she looks happy and active, so I could just be stressing for nothing, but I want to make sure she is comfy. If she is constipated how do I help her. [link] [comments]

Is my axolotl changing colors or is it sick? Posted: 20 Feb 2020 08:28 PM PST I have a leucistic axolotl that I got early December. He was completely pink when we hot him but he's recently developed freckles on his face and toes. Is this something I should be worried about or do some axolotls just change color/pattern sometimes?
