How old are your oldest shrimp?

Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:58 PM PST

I started my first tank over 4 years ago, a 10 gallon. Shrimp were the first thing added: 4 Amano and 4 Ghost. Over the next year and a half, I ended up adding more Ghost shrimp because they were so entertaining to watch! But the Ghosts, normally bred as food, died off sporadically and eventually, I stopped adding more.

Slowly, over the life of my casual hobby, I've also had fish come and go, dying of old age or having to cull sick or dying fish due to varying disease (only ever had neons and zebra danios), I've upgraded the tank to a 29 gallon, changed out the generic plastic plants for live versions, and generally evolved the tank with my expanding knowledge.
I am now down to 4 fish out of my original 20, and my 4 Amano are STILL going strong! Doing their early morning tank zoomies when I turn on the lights, occasionally riding the back of a snail or playing tag with the fish.

They still shed regularly and spend their time grouped on the original piece of driftwood that I bought and took home with them from their original tank at the pet store. The average lifespan for amano, according to multiple sources, is about 2.5 to 3ish years.

I'll be so sad to see them go, but I start worrying when I dont see all 4 at once, wondering if one has finally kicked the bucket.

So, I wondered, does anyone else have any friends who have lasted past their expected lifespan? If so, how long?

For the people confused about my last post; my shrimp has been eating a lot and I was wondering if “shrimp constipation” exists and why my shrimp has a long trail of waste. If anyone could help it’d be good

ellobiopsidae update: day 4 of quarantine in its planted jar. Looks like it might be clearing up. Definitely less noticeable. Could be a possible treatment. 0.5g jar with black sand, java moss, guppy grass, duckweed, and water lettuce. In a window with direct light and some snails. No added food
