Weird red dot on my goldfish, could anyone tell me what this is and lead me in the right direction to helping my fishy?

Shocked by the size of this fish. Is this too much of a size difference? I just got this 4" female ranchu from Goldfish Island and she DWARFS my baby pearlscale. Is this a problem? She seems very mellow at least. (29g, only fish in the tank, upgrading to a 55g eventually)

Salts safe for goldfish.

Might be a dumb beginners question I apologise. I ran out of API salt for my goldie tank so I got given marine salt, the brand is tropic marin classic if that helps. I dont know if they're the same thing. I'm unsure because it obviously states it's for tropical tanks.

So I dont know if I'm being stupid or if this kind of salt is still safe to add?

Forgot to turn the filter back on after feeding. What to do now?

Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:19 PM PST

I usually turn off the filters (two large HOBs) when I feed bloodworms but this time, somehow I forgot to turn the filters back on after feeding. Unfortunately they stayed off for a very long time, around 18 hours.

The airstones remained on, and also a small sponge filter (that I keep there in case I need to setup a quarantine tank).

As soon as I realised, in the heat of the moment the first thing I did was to turn the HOBs back on. Then I smelled something funky, maybe anaerobic bacteria developed in the filters? So I turned the filters off again, and washed them thoroughly in water taken from the aquarium.

Then I did a very large water change because I was scared that "bad" bacteria may have ended up in the tank. Should I be worried about that? Should I treat the tank with something?

Also, I am afraid that the beneficial bacteria in the filters have collapsed. Besides adding Prime, and doing lots of water changes, should I be doing something else?

Edit - one important detail I forgot to add, while the filters were off, the biomedia remained underwater, it didn't stay dry.
