29 gallon oranda how long till upgrade and questions

Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:54 PM PST

I bought a oranda a couple days ago not realising it was one of the bigger types of fancys and have a few questions

1: The goldfish is about 3 inches right now how long will it be till I have upgrade (i have been keeping water quality pristine and feeding 3 times a day with omega one small sinking pellets)

2: I heard that goldfish release a hormone or something in the water that stunts growth and am wondering if i need to do more water changes a week to stop this from building up

3: when i do upgrade what are some goldfish that will be compatible with them planning on a 40 gallon

Whats that white spot?? I do have white sand on my tank but seems a bit weird. He is a baby blue oranda, tank size 20g, and water parameters pH is dark blue (assuming 7.6), ammonia 0ppm, nitrites 0ppm and nitrates 5.0ppm.

Why is his belly red? I’m new to goldfish but is this normal? I’m a little concerned. I just got back from a trip and noticed it.

Questions for quarantine for plants

Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:32 PM PST

Hey y'all! My tank has been up for a month and a half and fully cycled for a month after using tetra safe start cycle.

I started the aquarium with three Anubias that I bleached for quarantine but I'll admit I took too long to dechlorinate. All three rhizomes started deteriorating and ones in the garbage the other two are doing ok. I think it might have been the bleach I dunno.

TLDR I want a much more planted aquarium and I'm not sure where to start. I've only had anubias in the past and my bleach quarantine didn't work that well.

  • what plants should I get? My fish are nibbly :/
  • I live in Canada I know big als plants have snails? Petsmart doesn't? Any online stores?
  • how should I quarantine? Aquarium salt? I don't have the space to set up a quarantine tank for 30 days.
  • any good articles y'all could recommend?

Thanks 1 million in advance
