Cannibal tank mate Please help!

These guys are being fed every day. There is no reason I know of that he would start doing this. These guys came to me almost 6 months ago. They were previously housed in a 20gal tank together but the research I had done said that might be too small for them together so they are currently in a 33 together just the two of them.

I have setup a 20 gal 'hospital' tank for the one getting nommed but can someone please help as to how to get them back together without being eaten, why this may have happened to start with and how to help the one eaten heal.
