Posted: 21 Oct 2019 09:39 PM PDT I have two goldfish that I took from a couple that no longer wanted them nearly half a year ago; two comets about 4" long each. One is long-finned, the other looks like your stereotypical, basic goldfish. Haven't had any real trouble with either of them, except the long-finned one has always been a bit dramatic in comparison to his sister. After a month or so of having him, I noticed that upon seeing me, he'd come to the front of the tank, not near the surface or bottom, and waggle aggressively till I came near, at which point he would calm down. Once this became ineffective in capturing my presence and attention, he began to smack the surface of the water with his head. Very loudly. It gets to a point where I have difficulty studying, as the fish are next to my desk and he keeps it up whenever I'm around. I change and treat the water regularly, I feed them once or twice a day (I am a college commuter student, can't feed them throughout the day). His sister is slightly bigger than him, eats less than he does, doesn't complain, and is doing fine. I don't see either gasping at the surface for air or any signs of lethargy in either fish. I don't see any signs of illness in either fish. I have been keeping fish over a decade now and haven't seen this sort of behavior before. Is my fish just greedy, or is there some underlying issue I have overlooked? Is there anything I can do to remedy this behavior, or should I move the fish elsewhere so that I can study in peace? Recommended 'medicines' to just keep at home for most situations. Posted: 22 Oct 2019 02:25 AM PDT To those who are far more experienced than I at keeping Goldfish, what type of medications and preventative treatments would you recommend to new Goldfish owners? Stuff that everyone should just have. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Oct 2019 11:13 PM PDT So i'm currently cycling a 40 gallon breeder to hopefully home 2 fancy goldfish. I put a piece of media from an establish 10 gallon tank but ik that alone won't do the job. i have the mesh bags and put so fish flakes and tied the bags up to avoid the mess of rotten fish flakes on my sand. Would this still be as effective? and also do i change the water while cycling and if so how often? I would also be replacing the fish food in the mesh bag like every 3 days. I really want their tank to be perfect sorry for so many questions [link] [comments]

What filter gph do I need for a 55 gallon tank w/ fancies? Posted: 21 Oct 2019 08:48 PM PDT I'll have 3 fancy goldfish. No other fauna. Should I get the 266gph or the 370gph? I am worried about the flow being too strong. [link] [comments]
Whats wrong with my smaller comet goldfish Posted: 21 Oct 2019 08:20 PM PDT My smaller comet goldfish looks sickly compared to my larger one. He spends most of his day hiding and is lethargic, but is still eating. Does anyone know whats wrong with him? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucV1AKVfd7Y&feature=youtu.be [link] [comments]
Fancy Tailed Goldfish Question Posted: 21 Oct 2019 09:05 AM PDT I'm thinking about changing up my aquarium and getting two fancy tailed goldfish. The aquarium is 20 gallon tall with a black gravel base, real Java ferns and drift wood, two hang on the back filters, and a heater. I do not currently have an air stone because I don't like the sound. I believe the two hang on the back filters will break the surface of the water enough for goldfish. The only tank mate I'm thinking is a golden algea eater. I've been battling an invasion of small plant snails and I'm hoping the goldfish will eat them. Plus I think fancy tails are very pretty and more active than what I currently have. Any concerns you see? Anything I should be aware of? [link] [comments] |
