*breeding tank update* berries confirm

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 08:13 PM PDT

My bamboo shrimp got himself stuck in the sponge filter tube and now he is shaped like a banana. Thus his new name, Nana.

Finding shrimplets in the wrong tank!?

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 07:51 PM PDT

So. I had neos in a tank with a Betta. I found the Betta murdering one and decided I didn't want a serial killer on my hands. I got another tank and started it cycling. In the meantime I bought one of those hang on the back breeder tanks and put my remaining 4 neos inside, two of which were berried.

They ended up hatching their shrimplets in the breeding tank which was cool as I'm sure I got to see them within hours of hatching. As the weeks go by and my tank is cycling the number of babies dwindles, but I expected that.

Then comes the day that the tank is cycled, I've got some biofilm in there, etc. I transfer them all over.

A few days go by and I randomly see a baby in the Betta tank. Wtf. Must have escaped the breeder tank, no big deal. I suck it up with a turkey baster and deposit him in the new tank. This happens two more times over the following few days.

Then today I do a deep clean of the Betta tank as I had to treat with planaria zero and it's time to do the 50% water change. Over the next few hours I subsequently find 6 more baby shrimp and manage to suck them up and deposit them in the other tank!

Houdini's I tell you!

I even had panty hose pulled tight over the overflow that went back into the main tank but ended up removing it as it was backing up the water and I was worried it would end up overflowing over the side of the breeder box and leaking! After finding that many in one night I'm sure I will find more as they get bigger... As long as the Betta doesn't find them first!

Anyone in the Bay Area want some Fire reds?

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 08:29 PM PDT

My tank is getting pretty full, would like to give some of my younger shrimp away to a good home. As long as you can show me you have a good tank setup, I don't need any money for them, just want to know theyre going to a responsible owner. I live in San Francisco, you'd need to pick them up and arrange suitable transport.

RCS gave birth to blue shrimps?

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 09:52 PM PDT

I have a mix of RCS and Blue Velvet shrimps for the first time. How normal is this occurrence for RCS to have blue babies?

Any suggestions on a macro lens? I would love to get a better picture of her!

I've been having a lot of trouble doing a gravel vac because of all the plants, so I'm starting to move them all into little terracotta pots so I can do a proper tank clean before the shrimplets hatch

Quarantine and Disease Question re Crossing Species?

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 11:31 PM PDT

Can anyone confirm if shrimp diseases cross shrimp species lines? As in crossing from Neocaridina davidi or heteropoda to Caridina multidentata.

I'm asking because I MAY end up with a situ where I need to quarantine neos in a tank with one amano for lack of an alternative. And I can't seem to find confirmation of that online or anything that contradicts it either. Thanks in advance for any links you may have.

Anyone else love the patterns on their low to mid grade female RCS? The one in the dish has the prettiest tiger stripes, can’t bring myself to move her to the cull tank

Same lineage but so different colors

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 06:20 AM PDT

Omg! First I thought they both were eaten, but I found one after a week. Now I have real confirmation that BOTH are alive! I’m so happy! Excuse the dusty table. ‍♀️

Is it normal for say a Blue Velvet neo shrimp to have a light red baby? I saw them days before and they were blue. None were pregnant when I first got them.

Trying to get my shrimp to breed and no luck

Posted: 20 Sep 2019 06:40 PM PDT

I've been trying to get my shrimp to breed for MONTHS and have never seen as much as a berries female. I have almost 20 adult shrimp in my tank, several of which are saddled. Since I started keeping shrimp, I have never had a single breeding happen. My parameters are pretty much perfect for them. Is there any tips that I can get for some breeding to happen? I have white cloud minnow fry and habrosus cories in the tank with them. What can I do? Am I just unlucky?

EDIT: I have found white flatworms in my tank. I think I know why I see no breeding
