Caught 5 berried shrimp and put them into the same breeding box, safe?

Posted: 01 Aug 2019 07:54 PM PDT

I want the babies to survive. I'm scared my betta would eat the babies if they aren't in the breeding box. Will berried shrimp eat other shrimp's newly hatchlings?

Edit: 6 berried shrimp now. Added a bunch of java moss and a moss ball to give them some shelter. The breeding box is pretty big and is filtered. Last time I had 2 berried shrimp inside and only 8 shrimplets survived, but I think its because a pesky non-pregnant shrimp was in there as well, couldnt get her out no matter how hard I tried. But I have first bites and algae pellets, so I think these shrimplets will be fine?

Tips for my first shrimp tank?

Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:14 PM PDT

I have a ~70 gallon acrylic tank that I am using as a planted garden. I have a 40 gallon undergravel filter and a 100 gal canister filter on it.

It's my first real time getting into aquariums, and I want to get shrimp; specifically red cherry shrimp. I see all this stuff about water testing and special stuff.

What do I need to do/work on to get and keep healthy shrimp? I see stuff about filters being too strong, I assume my canister filter is so could the undergravel support just shrimp? I have a bunch of plants in it that I'm cultivating and learning about.

How do I keep all the PH stuff orderly, so shrimps don't stress but I also don't get overrun with stringy algae

Breeder/retailer recommendation?

Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:40 PM PDT

Hello all! I am new to planted tank aquariums, and I would like to fill my 2 gallon and 7 gallon with some neocaridina shrimp. I am looking at aquaticarts.com and lrbaquatics.com (particularly the cull shrimp bc the rest are sold out at the moment). I'm not trying to breed or have an amazing genetic line. I'm more interested in having healthy shrimp that will pop in my aquarium with some colors (but the specific color isn't a top priority for me). Also, I wouldn't turn down a bargain if it meant no sacrifice in health assurance...

If these sellers are ok, or if you have any other recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it!! Thanks for your feedback!
