- TWIN UPDATE! They’re here!! One is noticeably a lot smaller and a different colour so I’m really happy that I won’t be able to mix them up now lol. Together only for the photo. Help me think of some awesome twin names! Do you know what morphs these could be?

- 'bout a month ago, i posted an image of my axolotls i had received named piff and bella in their tubs. they have finally been put into a clean, cycled tank! they have grown a tremendous amount since they arrived and couldn't be happier.
- My first axolotl
- We had a quarantine section for the eggs whos growth was questionable. We were worried of death & fungus spreading to the healthy ones. Today we decided it was time to let go. Then out pops this guy! He’s SOOO much smaller than his siblings. We’ve given him some food and separated him. Wish us luck!
- Heartbroken to admit that my axolotl who has refused to eat in over a month has died, I opened her up to see what was wrong, any ideas? (NSFW)

Posted: 04 Aug 2019 05:22 AM PDT Hello there I am getting an axolotl probably sometime in October I was watching care guides and stuff on YouTube I learned that it is not safe to have like certain types of gravel and sand in there because it still eat it sometimes while eating I guess but I was wondering what is some safe type of sand or something I can put in there [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Aug 2019 07:01 AM PDT Here is a picture of the dissection, I'm most concerned about the neon green/yellow color of under her skin Tank size was 20 gallons, nitrates were 5 ppm, nitrites and ammonia were 0, temp was around 68. She refused to eat for a month, any ideas what could have happened? [link] [comments]

Adjusting water parameters/peeling slime coat Posted: 03 Aug 2019 02:27 PM PDT A few weeks ago, my sponge filter crashed and I had to take it out to clean and reset it. Around this time I also did a fairly large water change, not realizing I was likely messing with the water parameters and biological filter. About a week later, I noticed what looked like fungus on the axolotl, and freaked out. After doing some more research, I concluded that it's slime coat likely had some minor peeling. I add API stress coat every time I add water into the tank. After noticing the peeling, I immediately bought the API Freshwater test kit and found that my ph level was far too low (6.5 or possibly lower) and that my ammonia was at an alarming 4 ppm. Nitrite and nitrate both tested for 0. I immediately bought API ammo lock to detoxify the ammonia immediately and also API ph up. I have used the ammo lock as directed (5 ml every other day) twice now. I understand that ammo lock only detoxifies ammonia and doesn't get rid of it, but am hoping that with time the biological filter develops naturally and begins cycling the ammonia. However, I'm concerned that the biological filter won't develop naturally because my ph is too low. But i don't want to raise the ph with ammonia still in the tank, increasing the toxicity! Should I add the API ph up while the ammonia in the tank is detoxified, hoping the increased ph level will help develop a biological filter while the ammonia in the tank is harmless? Or is this dangerous. I'm at a loss, this is a friends pet I've been caring for for the summer and would hate for anything bad to happen to it. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Where do y'all get feeders for juveniles? Posted: 03 Aug 2019 04:26 PM PDT So we just acquired a juvenile axolotl, and we have a container of pellets. I've heard blood worms lack necessary nutrients but all the nightcrawlers in town are pretty chunky. This critter is about 9 months old, I believe. :) [link] [comments] |
