Where the food at

Posted: 06 Aug 2019 02:03 AM PDT

So just about 2 months ago I got some axies. I’ve been wanting some since I was small. So glad I finally got them. Their names are Punyu-Pa (GFP Albino) and Nuide (Wildtype). Just wanted to show them off.

Possible axolotl parasite - help? :(

Posted: 06 Aug 2019 07:14 AM PDT

I looked at my axolotl this morning and noticed a tiny little worm (about the length of his eye or maybe a tiny bit longer) that was a brownish-reddish color crawling on his skin. I fed him a couple neon netras a while ago as a snack and I'm afraid he caught a parasite from one of them. How do I deal with this? :(

Edit: I also feed him frozen blood worms and I've heard of people getting live bloodworms in their water before, but I didn't think this was the case because of my cubes being frozen...

Breeding these guys has been so rewarding just to watch them grow

Brine shrimp are a lot harsher than we give them credit for.

I had some baby Axolotls I was feeding so I set up a little breeder tank for brine shrimp. After getting rid of most of the Axolotls l, I gave the last to my nephew along with the breeder tank for the shrimp. Once the baby got big enough for pellets, we stopped breeding more shrimp. After we fed him the last batch, I told my nephew to clean out the breeding tank. It was pretty dirty so he let warm tap water sit in the tank (a little 5 gallon) for a bit. Well he forgot about it and it set on his bathroom sink for a goo 3 weeks. Today I went in there and there was a whole bunch of shrimp inside. Some how a new batch of brine shrimp hatched in a tank with tap water and no salt or aeration, from eggs left in a dried out tank.

I know a guy in CA selling Axies, if anyone is interested. He is in Carmichael.

Axolotl not eating

Posted: 05 Aug 2019 09:43 PM PDT

One of my axolotls has been refusing to eat for the past 3 days. He's normally kind of finnicky with food, but he hasn't eaten at all for multiple days now. I tried giving him half of a trout worm, but he refuses to eat it. My other two axolotls have been devouring their worms. Tank temperature is around 68F. I can do tests for water parameters tomorrow. I have a sponge filter, so no significant water flow. My axie's gills are curled forward a bit, which I know is a sign of stress. He seems otherwise normal physically.

What can I do to get my axolotl to eat? Could he have other problems?

Planted Axo tank help

Posted: 05 Aug 2019 04:56 PM PDT

Hey! So we've had 2 axolotls in a 20g long since April. They've been doing well but we've wanted to plant the tank. Obviously the plants will need light but we haven't used lights on their tank because everything says they prefer it to be on the dark side. I've seen planted axolotl tanks so I'm wondering how to balance the plants needing light and the axo's preferring the dark. Would it just be a lot of hides and floating plants? And which plants do you advise on putting in there? Thanks in advance for the help!

Can someone explain to me the difference between Lucy axies??

Posted: 05 Aug 2019 01:28 PM PDT

Does anyone know the genetic difference between blue gill, lucy, and dirty lucy?? I know what the phenotype looks like, I'm asking about genotype because I thought I had it down but turns out my dirty lucy has less freckles than my alleged melanoid lucy.

Axololtl health please help

Posted: 05 Aug 2019 03:12 PM PDT

I called up different vets in my area if they do axololts but they all didn't know what one was, so I was hoping I can get some help here. My axolotl has been floating a lot lately and he hasn't been eating his food (I feed him pellets) and his little gill feathers have shrunk. I am thinking on switching his diet to brine shrimps.
