My bedroom shrimp tank is progressing nicely. Does anyone else use their shrimp tanks as guppy grow out tanks?

Looking to set up a shrimp tank.

Posted: 05 Jun 2019 12:09 AM PDT

I've been keeping fish for over a year now and recently decided to try and keep some shrimp. Now I know next to nothing about shrimp and the species of shrimp but I have done research on the subject. I'd like to do a simple planted shrimp tank so if you have any tips or suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to know what substrate would be best and what species of shrimp would be best. I have a 5 gallon tank on standby to save money but if I have to go bigger I'm willing to spend a reasonable amount. I'd like something low tech but pretty and nice.

Some questions I have regarding the set up is what kind of plants I should go for, what type of shrimp, cycling the water, maintenance and such. Thanks for any tips, suggestions and advice!

Is my shrimp pregnant? What do I do, the tank is only 2.6 gallons.

Back in November 2018 I started my Shrimp Tank with roughly 23 Blue Shrimp.. had a few die off... Today I did a count and I’m at 60 in roughly 7 months.. is this good yields are is that below average? I’m in California so they live in hard water.. and the Substrate is ADA Amazonia lite..

Do I have enough plant cover for my shrimp to breed??

I've never seen one of my shrimps sit so close to the surface before. His eye is poking out! I guess he loves his shrimp cuisine.

Don't understand kh/gh

Posted: 04 Jun 2019 04:34 PM PDT

Shrimp molting death this am. It was suggested to check kh/gh. Results are 4 drops for kh/ 12 drops for gh. Now what? I suspect a water change is needed (although it was just done 1 day ago). Cholla wood recently added. I suspect it's softening the water? 2.5 gallon shrimp tank.

Guys how do I revive my RCS?? They have been laying on the bottom for a few hours and when I put food in they are trying to get up

Reducing DGH with RO water

Posted: 04 Jun 2019 12:01 PM PDT

Just wondering how much of a swing is safe for RCS. currently my water is PH 7-7.5 GH 20 KH 12 and i'd like to drop the KH/GH to around half of what it is currently.

My Shrimps are doing good and have a rapidly growing population but I have had a couple deaths from Molt failure and I'm thinking about adding Tiger shrimp.

Should I just use RO water / tap water at my desired levels for water changes? say 20% a week? or should I be even more gradual and use say water mixed at 15 GH and 9 KH and then over months reduce it lower?
