If you were to set up a tank to display only one Coral, which would it be and how would you do it?

I've been in the aquarium hobby for over two decades, and was in the reef hobby a decade ago. I'm thinking of getting back in but with conservation in mind. I'm researching what it'd take to grow one single colony of SPS coral and keep it healthy for decades. So far I'm thinking of doing some sort of staghorn, probably in an invert only tank to reduce the maintenance and risk, since the goal would be long term stewardship. Picture starting from a locally sourced frag and growing it to 3 feet in size, eventually.

My own idea is starting with a 24x24x24 cube, with a single MH light because they're simple and a known quantity compared to led (and cheap due to the boom of 400 grow setups). Since it's invert only it'd be skimmer less. Auto top off, automatic dosing of two part. Artificial rock because I don't like the idea of harvesting rock from the ocean. I'd have it plumbed to ease water changes. Basically anything which eases maintenance and makes it more "bullet proof" is open for consideration. My final space is limited to about 36x36x36, but I'd only go that big of I really have to, to maintain health, and it'd have to be moved to the basement of it goes that big.

What would you pick for a species and how would you do it?

Best Hanna checker kit to get?

Posted: 12 Jun 2019 04:58 PM PDT

Hello everybody!

What are the best Hanna checkers to get? I am using Salifert test kits and am looking for some Hanna checkers. Because I am having trouble comparing the colors and I've heard that Hanna kits are easier to use. Due to my budget, I can only buy 3 Hanna kits for now. Any advice what to buy?

Does anybody know what this is on my nerite snails shell and if it’s bad? Just noticed it today. It keeps going in and out of a little cone shaped thing and spinning around.

What coral stands up to GSP?

Posted: 12 Jun 2019 05:24 PM PDT

My GSP is spreading over its rock like a weed. Any other corals I can put on that rock that might be able to compete with GSP for space? There are a few anemones on the rock too.
