Looking for Goldfish/koi pond owner that can foster my two lovely goldfish who are two years old.

I have two beautiful goldfish but I am looking for someone who lives in Richmond Virginia who has a goldfish/koi pond that is willing to foster my two goldfish, I'll pay a monthly fee for their stay at the pond, they are a bit older than 2 years old. They are around 3 inches or 4 in size.

I really need your help. This is heartbreaking for me. I love my fish very much, but I am moving to New York, I can take them with me, but they can die on the trip, plus I want my goldfish to live happily in a pond not a tank, a pond that is well protected from Herons and other predators and well maintained.

Please if you know anyone with a good heart to take my goldfish, let them contact me or give me their phone number.

In a bit of a pickle

Posted: 05 Jun 2019 06:49 PM PDT

So long story short: me and my boyfriend moved from texas to North Carolina temporarily. We successfully traveled 16 hours with our 2 common goldfish and have had no problems. Our time in North Carolina is coming to an end and plan to also travel back home with them.

When we get home, we plan on getting them a much larger tank. Our problem is we do not have anywhere to store our fish while the new tank cycles and would like to cycle it as fast as possible.

Any suggestions on how to temporarily store the goldfish so they're safe and happy and also quickly cycle a new tank??

Thanks in advance!

New Tank Logistics

Posted: 05 Jun 2019 12:59 PM PDT

Hello!

I am in need of some practical advice that I know will have a simple answer, but my husband and I keep talking ourselves in circles about it so have had an empty tank in our living room for weeks....

We have what I think is a comet goldie that we got about 5 years ago. We had him in a small 5 gallon tank for the first two years we had him in our tiny apartment, and have had him in a 15 gallon tank since we moved to our current place. We've been talking about getting a bigger tank for a bit since he grew into it pretty quickly. Recently a friend gave us a 26 gallon tank (this one https://www.fishtanksdirect.com/aqueon-26-gallon-24lx15wx21h-bow-front-glass-fish-tank-kit-806439.aspx ), so the match is lit under our butts to do it.

Here is my hesitation -- We want the new tank to go in the same spot his current tank is in (on the same table....which I'm not entirely sure it can handle it, but husband and friend assure me it's fine so whatever lol). And because it's such a big tank, I'm guessing its really important we get it cycled right. We are eager to get him in it, but logistically I am at a loss because I know how impossible it is going to be to move tanks filled with any water.

So...how do we do this move? Do we just put him in a temporary container someplace else until the new tank is ready? How do we get THAT water healthy enough for him? Does IT need a filter?? What size is appropriate without causing him too much stress for that amount of time? (Our last move was as simple as setting up the tank, let it do its thing while we moved everything in, then put him straight in when the time came). AM I OVER THINKING THIS???

I know this is probably very straightforward, but we are both pretty attached to this fella and still feel like we have no idea what we are doing, so second guess EVERYTHING. I really don't want to accidentally kill him trying to get this done.

Any insight is appreciated! THANK YOU!!

Stunting permanent

Posted: 05 Jun 2019 07:03 AM PDT

I got a couple of ranchu's from someone who kept over 10 goldfish plus other tropical fish in a ~160L tank. One of the ranchu is "still a baby" and seems fine but the other has a really huge mouth for its size and only measures about 6cm. My other ranchu's got to 8cm at 6months so I'm wondering, is he stunted? Is this permanent or will he grow some more? They said they had been keeping fish for a couple of years and no idea when they purchased this ranchu. Should I expect a shorter life expectancy or do anything special for him?

Questions about pea treatment for SBD (Swim Bladder Disease)

Posted: 05 Jun 2019 05:27 AM PDT

My fancy goldfish Pepper got all the symptoms for swim bladder disease, so I've been putting him on a fast. Friday evening I'm supposed to break the fast with peas. I'm very much a newbie to fish and aquariums so I've got some questions about this.

  1. Do I only feed him peas for 3 days or do I have to feed him his usual feed alongside it?
  2. Are split peas okay or do I really have to feed him green peas?
  3. Is it okay if his buddy (also a fancy goldfish) eats peas with him or do I have to put him in a quarantine?
  4. I'm also a bit worried that they won't eat the peas. How do I make sure they do?

Thanks!
