How long does it take to cycle a tank?

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 06:55 PM PDT

I bought a new aquaruim and started it up in late April. I used the tutorials that the automod gives, but it never really said an aproximate time. I've been testing the waters and theres no ammonia, lots of nitrites, and i havent tested the nitrates recently but last i checked it was in a healthy range. Should i do a water change to take out the nitrites? Or should i keep waiting? I have 2 tanks set up right now, and it's not the best on the electric and especially the water bill. I'm also waiting to move my fish over before adding the decorations and bubblers i already have in the other tank

disease identification please help!!

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 08:39 PM PDT

hello everyone, recently my goldfish has had it pretty rough. I try my best to take care of him so I've felt pretty bad in recent days as I'm not entirely sure what the problem is with him. he appears to have a disease and chills out in the bottom of the tank and spontaneously suddenly swims uncontrollable for a few seconds before settling back down. he has white fuzzy stuff on him which I think is a fungal infection?? I put in medicine for it but I would like second opinions, any help is greatly appreciated!! I've been doing about one third to a half water changes every 7 to 10 days

Goldfish in a wine barrel?

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 05:41 PM PDT

I purchased a 55 gallon wine barrel from lowes. I filled it up about halfway with water and then added 5 goldfish. These five did not survive. The oldest one survived about a month. I attributed the last two deaths to the cold when we had an unexpected snowstorm. Last week I got 5 comets and one black moor. Within a week 4 comets and the moor died. I have one surviving comet. There's about 30 gallons of water in there. It's a rain barrel so the water is not supper clean but i did not think that would matter. Does anyone know why the goldfish are not surviving and what I can do to help them live?

Why are my goldfish acting so strange!

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 04:20 AM PDT

Hi everyone,

As of a couple of days ago my two goldfish have started acting really odd.

Usually I can expect them to swim towards me and beg for food whenever I come near them, however now they completely ignore me - sometimes even hiding away. They have also begun to sleep/rest in places where they have never done before (normally I wouldn't worry about this but coupled with their other strange behaviour I though it might be worth mentioning)

Two days ago I bought 2 new plants for them and also a bottle of API AlgaeFix. I'm never using that again, it made the water become completely cloudy and I did a ~30% water change. The cloudiness mostly went away though there is still a little bit of it left. I also gave them broccoli for the first time the day before.

I also removed one of the plants (no idea what it's called, wish I did) because it was making the fish act crazy! One of them was really trying to eat(?) the centre of it while the other was swimming around really hyperactively and chasing the other more than he'd ever done before.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know!!

Had both fish for 4 years Tank 125L

Ammonia 0

pH 7.5

GH 180

KH 180

NO2 0

NO3 80

Temp 24.5C (76F) - too hot? It's become super warm here recently
