Please help - clean water isn’t working! Fin rot help! Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:20 PM PDT My largest fish Ilyich has been suffering from fin rot for 2.5 weeks. I first noticed it on May 23rd. He's in a 120 gallon tank with three other fancy goldfish who are showing no signs of illness. I have two AquaClear 110 HOB filters, an Eheim 330 canister, and a sponge filter in the tank. When I noticed the fin rot, my parameters were: Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrite 0ppm, Nitrate 20ppm. I was doing weekly water changes to keep nitrates below 20ppm. Over the next week, I bumped up the water changes to two-three times. Then over the last 7 days, I've been doing daily 50% water changes and keeping nitrates below 5ppm. I've been adding aquarium salt, and 6 tablespoons of stress gaurd per 50% water change. His fins look the same to me, no better, no worse. He seems to be slightly more lethargic than he was two weeks ago, but I don't think it's so much that it's worrying. I don't know what to do. If it was bacterial or fungal, wouldn't it have spread to the other fish? If bad water caused it (I'm very doubtful of this), shouldn't the clean water have cleared it up? The only other thing I can think of is that he's rubbing against the HOB filter intakes and possibly catching his fins. I've seen him swim past them a couple times and his back fin sort of sucks up against it but it doesn't seem like it's actually pulling on it (if that makes sense.) What should I do? Thank you. Posted: 11 Jun 2019 11:42 AM PDT My favorite goldfish Dig Dug has suddenly gotten ill. I did a water change yesterday and she seemed fine, but today she's having trouble staying upright, bottom sitting and gasping a lot. Even worse, in the attached picture she's got some kind of air bubble or something weird going on with her anus? Its been getting bigger throughout the day it seems. I did add a little alkaline buffer during the water change to get the PH up to 7.0ish (was around 6.5), I'm wondering if that could have caused her to suddenly have issues? :( Maybe I should do another water change to get the water a bit more acidic? My other three fish are all perfectly fine though. I think the urgent issue is the weird bubble coming out her back end. Any advice? I really don't want to lose her, she's my oldest and best goldfish. I've got 4 fancies in a 75 gallon tank, and the nitrates are below 5-10 on my test. [link] [comments]
My comet is bullying my shubunkin Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:24 AM PDT My shubunkin is a happy, wiggly little fella normally but a couple days after buying my comet to keep him company his behaviour completely changed. He stopped swimming around and just floated with his fins tucked close to his body and only swam around for food. At first I thought he was ill so I launched into frequent water changes but 3 days on he seemed to be getting more withdrawn. The next day I sat and watched discovering my comet was almost intimidating my shubunkin. If my shubunkin moved then my comet came over and nudged him back to the space he was previously in. I've separated them now and put my comet into the hospital tank. In maybe 10-15 minutes my shubunkin was back to his old self and swimming around the tank again like he used to. Even coming over to greet me. I know it's silly but I feel heartbroken. I only wanted him to have a friend and it ended up him being bullied. I've only owned the comet 7 days but what do I do? Should I leave it a few days, maybe a week and try reintegrating them? Can this situation resolve? I have the tanks available to accommodate them separately but I was planning on starting to cycle my second tank in the hopes of owning tropical fish. [link] [comments]
