North Florida - Looking for Telescope Goldfish

Posted: 10 Jun 2019 07:57 PM PDT

I'm in North Florida between Gainesville and Orange Park and I'm looking for a place or person to buy a Telescope Goldfish from within the next year or so. I'm still prepping for a Goldfish and I plan to take some extra time to root a couple plants in fish bowls (inside the tank) for them. I just haven't had any luck finding a place that sells Telescope Goldfish.

I didn’t know it’s more expensive to build your own tank than to just buy one.

So I wanted to build my own tank, but today I called my glass shop near my house and it would cost me $450 for the glass alone.

I'm better off just buying the tank itself than to just build it.

Goldfish Gestation Period?

Posted: 10 Jun 2019 08:28 AM PDT

Hello All. I have a few questions about a goldfish's gestation period, and can't seem to find the answers on the web. So of course my next stop was Reddit and I was not surprised to discover that there's a great goldfish subreddit with thousands of enthusiastic followers. I'm hoping you might be able to provide some info.

In late February of this year my daughters were given 2 goldfish. Unfortunately, one of them died on March 2nd (we're sure of the date b/c of a text sent about it on that day), but the second one, Abby, as been seemingly thriving, alone, since then.

This morning, I went to feed Abby and there are dozens of what appear to be tiny fish swimming around the bowl with her. As I mentioned, I searched the web and the normal gestation period seems to be a matter of days, not months. How is this possible? Should I move them to another bowl or tank to prevent Abby from eating them? I've moved about a half-dozen of them to a temporary container, but everything I know about fish could just about fill a thimble. . So any info anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Heartbroken over dead rescue fish

Posted: 10 Jun 2019 06:41 AM PDT

Someone gave me their heavily neglected goldfish. He was covered in ammonia burns and had popeye on his left eye. His fins were falling off. Otherwise he was very lively and energetic. I thought I had a chance to save him.

I was sleeping at my girlfriend's that night and was to head back home in the morning. I left the fish in his (opened) glass container. He was to get his own large filtered tank in the morning.

He was dead when I woke up 😣

Just wanted to double check that this is fin rot? I’m putting him in a separate tank tomorrow, but I want to be certain of what he has before I start treatment

Question(s) about quarantining snails before adding in with Goldies.

Posted: 10 Jun 2019 08:00 AM PDT

We would like to put some mystery snails in with our comet. Do we need to quarantine them? Even if it's a 'why not' type of recommendation - I'd rather err on the side of caution. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of how long to quarantine for and what exactly we should even be looking for - such as signs of "blank" mean definitely don't introduce into main tank.
