hey all, i'm brand new here! my mom is in the process of moving, and gave me her betta a few days ago without much of a warning. for the last 6ish months, Puff has lived in a disgusting, tiny vase with no filter, no heater (vase water was <60F), no stimulation whatsoever, and rare cleaning.

it pissed me off to no end, so as soon as we got him, my boyfriend and i bought a ~3 gallon tank (i know that's small, but i quite literally don't have the room for anything bigger, and i was unaware of the ideal size when i bought it) with a filter, heater, new food, and plants.

now obviously, he has fin rot, no surprise there. i looked up how to treat it, and google said i should clean and soak the tank and it's contents in hot water, refill it, let it cycle, and then return Puff and use antibacterial drops. i want to be as cautious as possible with him, so is there any advice or additional info anyone has here before i go at it?
