Advice about the law, and does anyone want to break it with me? Posted: 07 Jun 2019 05:13 AM PDT Hey all! So, I love aquariums, aquatic life, and all things nature - actually. I have a farm with endangered animals and I recently got back into the hobby of my youth - aquariums! I have a couple purely shrimp, some betta, and a big community tank. I have ramshorn and bladder snails (yay.) but I really really miss the gentle giants of my younger tank-keeping years; the mystery/apple snail. I live in the north of Sweden, Europe. In Europe, they have banned the apple snail from the aquatic trade since it took over a lake in Spain and destroyed the ecosystem by eating all living plants (since apple snails don't eat plants,it must have been another sort than what we have in our aquariums, but whatever). In Sweden, the apple snail would never survive in a lake, as the cold winters (heck, it's cold year round) would kill them. I really want mystery snails/apple snails in my fishtanks. I would never let them out in the wild, and I would never flush them down the toilet or abuse them in any way. I'm responsible and would treat them as they deserve to be treated - like a treasured pets. Now, the mystery snail/apple snail is unavailable for purchase in Sweden. I'm unsure about the rest of Europe, and I think if you already have them in your tank you can keep them. So I need someone to purchase the snail from, and I can't think of a better place to ask than here. So what do you think? Should I break the law a little, and seek to purchase the beloved pet from my childhood, or abide by the law and just...not? [link] [comments] | ||
