| Posted: 02 May 2019 09:03 PM PDT So, I went on my annual guys' trip and today I receive a frantic phone call from my wife that "something is wrong with the aquarium". It's a 180g in my home office, so not a place anyone normally goes. There had been a lot of crap weather in Chicago, so I walk my wife through resetting the breaker to get everything going again. While doing this, she mentions multiple dead fish, and the one left she can see is gasping for air at the top of the tank. I look into Apex Fusion and find out the outage occurred Apr 28 at 12:10am. It was nearly 5 full days of no light, no circulation, and no filtration... Not to mention NO FOOD for the fish or the problem would have been identified earlier. Setting aside the sheer amount of disappointment in my first wife, how screwed am I here? I'm on the plane from Denver to Chicago now. I'm going to mix up 30g tonight for a big water change tomorrow. I have no idea on the state of what I'm heading home to. When Apex fired up, water temp was 68*. It sounds like a near complete crash, and I don't anticipate any fish surviving, let alone all my Coral. Are there any options to salvage at this point, or is this a "drain it and start over" scenario? I'll get parameters tonight after I get home. TL;DR; Aquarium lost power for 5 days and I need some advice. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 02 May 2019 08:24 AM PDT So yesterday I moved from my father's house where my tank is as I plan to move the tank this weekend. I took one of the two heater (for redundancy) so I could heat some fresh saltwater for the move and gave my father instructions about topping off and feeding. No big deal. I woke up this morning at 7am to several messages saying « fish acting weird, temperature is low, covered with a blanket and put some heated RODI water ». Needless to say I was already stressed by the move and thought the second heater missing caused the problem even if the first had to be enough. I jumped into the car and drove to his house, a hour drive. Turns out the temperature was fine and even rose to 26.5 celsius with the blanket and heated water, and my fish were acting weird because that's how they fucking sleep. The clowns sleep face to face without moving, stuck in place by the overflow current. The yellow clown sleeps upside down attached to the glass. And the wrasse sleeps stuck in the rocks without moving. I wish he had sent me the actual temperature and more details, but now I'll just be extra careful with everything. Lesson learnt, if you have people care for your tank you need to tell them EVERYTHING, not just how to feed and top off. [link] [comments] | ||
